Aboriginal Liaison Officer

Pilbara-based opportunity with a genuine leader in the healthcare sector that continues to experience massive growth. This is an exciting opportunity to join an inclusive and collaborative team as an Aboriginal Liaison Officer.

Key Responsibilities:

• Act as advocate, interpreter, and advisor within the Health Service to provide the link between Aboriginal clients and Health Service staff, working at all times according to approved policies and guidelines.
• Promote cultural awareness to WACHS-Pilbara staff and wider community.
• Liaise daily with clinical staff and attend meetings with respect to Aboriginal clients as required.
• Assist health professionals to achieve informed consent prior to treatment of Aboriginal clients.
• Liaise with appropriate Government Departments e.g Centrelink, Family and Children’s Services as required, and assist with every-day tasks for Aboriginal clients such as banking, shopping, collection of mail etc as requested.
• Assist in discharge planning to enable appropriate family and community placement and provide support after discharge as necessary.
• Maintain appropriate records and ensure security and confidentiality of information.
• Participate in staff development programs as agreed to in consultation with line manager.

Key Skills & Requirements:

• Qualifications in delivering Aboriginal/TSI health care services.
• Demonstrated effective interpersonal, written communication and inter-cultural communication skills, including the ability to consult and negotiate in accordance with Indigenous protocols.
• Current knowledge of legislative and regulatory requirements in the areas of Equal Opportunity, Disability Services and Occupational Safety & Health, and how these impact on employment, people management and service delivery.
• Possession of (or eligible to possess) a current C or C-A driver’s license.
• Successful Working with Children Check
• Successful Criminal Record Screening clearance
• Successful Pre-Employment Health Assessment
