Your Opportunity
“ForWhen” aims to deliver Perinatal Mental Health navigation services for expectant and new parents experiencing or at risk of Perinatal Mental illness, including improved access to support services.
This role will connect First Nations families to Perinatal and Infant Mental Health (PIMH) services. You will be building relationships with key individuals and organisations, as well as providing culturally sensitive support for pregnant women and their families to access suitable Perinatal Mental Health services.
Duties will include:
Provide culturally relevant information for First Nations families seeking perinatal support
Coordinate intake and screening to direct parents and families to relevant local services
Collaborate with a small team, including an Aboriginal Liaison Officer, to enhance the service's reach, capacity, and cultural support
Support participants to navigate the complex perinatal and infant Mental Health service
Develop a plan with parents and families to meet immediate and long-term needs
Ensure case notes are accurate and kept up to date
Requirements for Success
Identifying as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person is an occupational requirement for this position. If you have a background in Mental Health, midwifery, or nursing, and a proven career in these fields, you'll bring valuable expertise to support parents by improving access to services and guiding those at risk of Perinatal Mental illness.
The skills and capabilities you bring include:
Qualifications in or relevant to nursing, health and/or community services with experience working with First Nations families who have young children
Strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and communities – previous experience working within remote or regional groups
Previous perinatal and infant Mental Health experience preferred
Demonstrated understanding of current health issues impacting First Nations families and children and involvement with Aboriginal communities
Knowledge of parenting, family dynamics, child development, including attachment theory and trauma-informed care approaches
Exceptional communication skills and the ability to establish and build rapport with a range of people
Current NT Drivers Licence
Valid OCHRE Card (Working with Children)
To perform this role it is essential that the person is an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section sub-s 35(1)(b)(ii) of Anti-Discrimination Act 1996.
