The organisation
The Griffith University Gold Coast (GUGC) Student Guild is an independent not-for-profit student association servicing all students enrolled at the Griffith University Gold Coast campus. The Guild works closely with Griffith University and other key stakeholders to support the diverse community of approximately 17,000 students.
The Guild has three divisions: Student Services, Business Services, and Commercial Services led by the General Manager reporting to a Board of elected student representatives. Under the direction of the Board, the Guild’s purpose is to support students and enhance student life. Our vision is to create a thriving community where all students feel supported and empowered for their future.
This position sits within Student Services which provides a range of support and enhancement initiatives across the areas of: Academic Support, wellbeing, careers and employability, sport and fitness, student clubs and societies, and volunteer programs.

The role
The Academic Support Officer is responsible for delivering specific student Academic Support services within the Academic Support Services Framework, making appropriate referrals to internal and external support services as required. This includes providing students at all levels of ability with extra-curricular study tools and general academic skills which enhance their success at university.
Specific initiatives and services are subject to change with student and organisational demands however the services currently include student advocacy, assignment proofreading, academic mentor programs, timetable planning assistance, workshops, events and activations.
This is student-facing position that requires the delivery and facilitation of engaging activities and activations to Griffith University Gold Coast campus students. These activities involve the setup, execution, and pack down of events held on campus.
The position attracts a salary of between $38,721 - $41,487 plus 11% superannuation and this is a part-time 12 months contract.
Key selection criteria
Essential:
1. Sound understanding of general academic skills, study principles and strategies and the ability to activate these through programs and services.
2. The ability to proofread the spelling and grammar of academic level writing and assignments to a native level of fluency.
3. The ability to activate academic or educational content through small events, promotional activities, workshops and other group-based initiatives.
4. Strong communication and stakeholder management experience both internally and externally to the organisation with the ability to effectively communicate with a diverse range of individuals, including culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
5. Demonstrated strong organisational skills, time management skills, a high level of attention to detail, and the ability to respond efficiently to competing demands.
Desirable:
1. Minimum bachelor level qualification from a tertiary institution, or currently studying a minimum bachelor level qualification at Griffith University.
2. At least 1 years’ practical experience relevant to the role, including experience managing conflict and working with stakeholders one on one to navigate difficult conversations.
3. Demonstrated experience with one-on-one consultations, coaching, mentoring or other advisory roles which assist people in understanding their situation and how to move forward.
4. An advanced understanding of the higher education sector with the ability to interpret policies, regulations and structures to students.
5. Demonstrated experience engaging young people aged 18-25.
