The Role
This post is for a tutor on the IAPT Low-Intensity Psychological Therapies Programme. You will join a team within the School of Psychology which has responsibility for the delivery and assessment of teaching and learning materials associated with the in order to support the development and assessment of clinical competency by trainees on this programme. You will help ensure the efficient and effective delivery of the programme by providing teaching and training, and undertake the assessment and evaluation of the trainees. You will be required to liaise effectively with a range of external stakeholder groups including placement providers, and work alongside colleagues on other clinical training programmes within the School.

This is a 14.8 hours per week/ part time role.
Key Accountabilities

  • To act as Academic Tutor on the Low-Intensity Psychological Therapies programme of study to support students to develop clinical competency in the low intensity CBT clinical method
  • To provide teaching in a variety of settings from small group clinical skills role-play sessions to current theoretically informed lectures, ensuring content, methods of delivery and learning materials meet the defined learning objectives for individual teaching sessions
  • To develop and enhance teaching materials, methods and approaches
  • To seek ways of improving performance by reflecting on teaching design and delivery and obtaining and analysing feedback, and to undertake evaluations of the programme and teaching impact as required
  • To participate in the trainee selection process with other members of the team
  • To monitor and ensure student progression by reference to defined criteria and provide constructive feedback to students
  • Liaise with a range of external stakeholder groups (including NHS Talking Therapies placement providers and NHS England) with regards to broad issues around programme delivery and also individual student progress
  • Keep up to date on new recommendations and guidelines set by the Department of Health or other public bodies (e.g. NHS plan, National Service Framework, National Institute for Clinical Excellence)
  • Liaise with other HEIs delivering low-intensity CBT training in order to share best practice and expertise
  • Liaise across other University clinical training programmes and the Psychological Therapies Research and Training Clinic as required, all of which are based within the School of Psychology
The Person
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • An understanding of the roles of PWPs within the UK healthcare system and the NHS and the function of clinical training in supporting these roles
  • Recent clinical and/or supervisory experience in an IAPT service operating a stepped care model of service delivery
  • A comprehensive grasp of the theoretical and practical foundations of low-intensity working, with the flair and flexibility to accommodate future developments
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload
  • Ability to build good working relationships with a wide range of individuals likely to be encountered in the role, including trainees, colleagues and a range of University and NHS staff
Desirable
  • Experience of involvement in delivering teaching and training, including CBT and/or PWP training
  • Experience in supervising others in CBT/PWP work
  • Experience in appraising the competence of trainees including through assessment of academic and/or clinical assignments

Qualifications
  • Successful completion of a Degree Level 6/PGCert in Low Intensity Psychological Therapy (or equivalent) from a provider of Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner training accredited by the British Psychological Society
Desirable
  • Successful completion of a PG Dip in High Intensity CBT
