About the role
Working within a multi-disciplinary team, you will provide evidence-based services to veterans and their families, to improve physical and mental well-being as well as chronic disease management. You will be providing services as an Exercise Scientist or exercise professional including as a Personal Trainer, gym instructor and group exercise instructor to individuals and groups.
Other key accountabilities:
- Undertake pre-exercise screenings with clients.
- Design, evaluate and implement tailored evidence-based exercise programs for clients to support positive outcomes, within scope of qualifications, with oversight from the Clinical Lead
- Ensure effective communication with relevant referring agencies and/or clinicians, including referrals for clinical intervention where needed.
- Provide supervision of gym facilities , including observing client use of facilities, technique correction, keeping equipment clean/ tidy/well-maintained and being available for client inquiries or assistance.
- Provide health, physical activity and exercise education, advice and support, within scope of qualifications.
- Design and deliver exercise sessions developed for participation by a group of clients with a mix of ages/fitness levels, including instructions and demonstrations in a group setting, with oversight from the Clinical Lead.
- Maintain currency of contemporary practices within professional field to support delivery of relevant physical wellbeing services.
What you need to succeed in this role:
- Minimum of Certificate IV in Fitness and registration with Ausactive as an Exercise Professional or a Bachelor of Exercise Science and registration as an Accredited Exercise Scientist with ESSA.
- Experienced and knowledgeable in working with people with musculoskeletal conditions, mental health conditions as well as chronic disease management.
- Current Drivers Licence
- Current First Aid and CPR certification
- Working with Children clearance
- Able to work independently, including reporting to onsite and off-site managers.
- Clear understanding of and adherence to scope of practice for an exercise professional
Advantageous
- Minimum of two years as an Exercise Professional or Exercise Scientist, with recent experience that is relevant to this role.
- Direct experience in delivering exercise professional or other health and fitness related services to current or past serving Defence personnel and their families.
- Additional training in relevant areas of practice including injury prevention, musculoskeletal conditions, older clients, supporting rehabilitation programs.
- Demonstrated skills in delivering evidence-based treatment to people across the lifespan presenting with a wide variety of needs.
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary team.
