The Opportunity
The Engineering and Transport Department has an amazing opportunity for an enthusiastic and experienced Active Transport Project Officerto join our collaborative and multidisciplinary team. Reporting to the Coordinator Transport, you will deliver various projects from the Maribyrnong Bicycle Strategy as well as other projects to increase Active Transport uptake across the City of Maribyrnong.
Excitingly, you will also get to work alongside a team of professionals charged with improving the appeal and function of our streets and spaces. Critical to your success in this role will be designing, consulting and delivering the various Active Transport Projects whilst also providing advice on Active Transport Projects across the municipality. Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the development, review and implementation of policies and strategies in relation to Active Transport and sustainable transport trends within the municipality including the Maribyrnong Bicycle Strategy and Walking Strategy.
- Develop and implement strategies and behaviour change programs in Active Transport and monitor the effectiveness of the programs.
- Research the perceived barriers and benefits of Active Transport within Council and the wider community.
- Develop resources that support travel behaviour change and provide information to schools, workplaces on Active Transport associated with the projects outlined the bicycle and walking strategies.
- Provide information/data for the preparation of media releases and response to media inquiries relating to Active Transport associated with any projects.
- Facilitate the development of strong Council networks with walking and cycling advocacy groups (e.g. Bicycle Network Victoria, Bike West) and Active Transport related State Government agencies.
About You
To be considered for this role, you will have the following:
- A relevant tertiary qualification in transport planning, engineering or urban planning with some experience in delivering Active Transport initiatives.
- Knowledge of sustainable transport and road safety policy issues within a local government context.
- Ability to prepare design concepts in the form of clear illustrative plans and drawings.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage complex activities and tasks, manage budgets, prioritise work and meet deadlines.
