We are entering another exciting growth phase, and an opportunity has arisen for a hands-on Additive Manufacturing Engineer to join our dynamic team.
As an AM Engineer, you will be responsible for a wide range of tasks including AM build preparation, laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) machine setup and maintenance, parameter development, post-processing, and collaboration with thermal calculations specialists and CAD designers. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Additive Manufacturing technologies, a meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities and Key Tasks:- AM Build Preparation:
- Generate build plans and optimize part orientation for efficient production.
- Prepare digital models and ensure compatibility with AM processes.
- Analyze designs for manufacturability and recommend improvements.
- LPBF Machine Setup and Maintenance:
- Set up LPBF machines for production runs, ensuring proper calibration and alignment.
- Conduct routine maintenance and troubleshoot issues to minimize downtime.
- Implement improvements to enhance machine performance and reliability.
- LPBF Parameter Development:
- Develop and optimize process parameters to achieve desired material properties and build quality.
- Conduct experiments and analyze data to validate parameter selections.
- Stay current with industry advancements and incorporate best practices into parameter development.
- AM Post-Processing:
- Perform post-processing operations such as support removal, surface finishing, and heat treatment.
- Inspect finished parts for quality assurance and adherence to specifications.
- Develop and document post-processing procedures to ensure consistency and repeatability.
- Collaboration and Consulting:
- Work closely with thermal calculations specialists to assess and optimize thermal management strategies.
- Collaborate with CAD designers to optimize designs for Additive Manufacturing and provide input on design iterations.
- Provide technical guidance and support to other manufacturing operations as needed.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field. Advanced degree preferred.
- Proven experience in Additive Manufacturing, specifically with laser powder bed fusion technology.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., CATIA/3DExperience, SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and experience with AM design principles.
- Understanding of materials properties, metallurgy, and mechanical testing.
- Familiarity with statistical analysis and design of experiments (DOE) methodologies.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Location:
Conflux Technology on is situated on the Deakin University, Waurn Ponds campus.
Conflux operates on a 38-hour week Monday to Friday with a flexible start and finish times. Due to the nature of Additive Manufacturing some work outside standard hours will be required from time to time.
Salary package negotiable depending on experience.
