Ongoing VPS-3 Team Leader role available.

About the role:

The Victoria Police Forensic Services Department is a NATA accredited laboratory that provides a professional forensic service to Victoria Police, persons involved with the administration of justice, and the public. 

The Fingerprint Sciences Group (FSG) provides a range of services which include, but are not limited to, crime scene and exhibit examinations, latent comparisons, forensic intelligence and support to frontline members, and provision of evidence in courts of law.

About the role

Your duties will include:

  • Update and maintain record systems including the Law Enforcement Assistance Program (LEAP) and the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS) for management of ten print records.
  • Maintain filing systems, including digital databases, hard copy documents, and records of correspondence, to ensure compliance with legislative and procedural obligations.
  • Compile documentation required by fingerprint examiners to prepare statements for presentation in a court of law
  • Respond to enquiries from internal and external stakeholders, providing first line information and advice regarding case and sample status, court statement requirements, and FSG workflows and processes.
  • Manage projects to improve and consolidate administrative processes, under direction of the Group Manager FSG.
  • Participate in accreditation duties and quality obligations as required, including the compilation and update of controlled documents.
  • Provide authoritative oral and written advice, guidance, and recommendations to management and staff in relation to routine and complex administrative tasks.
  • Supervise, lead, and develop the Administration Officer (VPS-2) cohort within the FSG, including their recruitment and performance.
  • Prepare, publish, and maintain rostering and scheduling systems for FSG employees.
  • Provide senior administrative support to the various units within the FSG. 

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Demonstrated ability to supervise a team, including undertaking routine staff administration, correctly allocating of team priorities and ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Demonstrated correspondence management skills and proven capacity to co-ordinate tasks, determine priorities, monitor workflows and operate effectively as a member in a team environment.
  • Well-developed research, conceptual and analytical skills with demonstrated planning and organising ability.
  • Proven ability to work flexibly, with limited supervision and/or lead a team and contribute to team or organisation goals.
  • Sound computer skills, particularly in word-processing and other software packages.
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, dealing effectively with a wide range of personnel within a large and diverse organisation focusing on continual improvement.
  • An understanding of the customer service requirements of the position and a demonstrated record of strong commitment and achievement in meeting customer needs.
  • A proven record of ethical behaviour and a demonstrated commitment to the Victoria Police Code of Ethics and Conduct and the Organisational Values.

Requirements and relevant information:

  • Ongoing VPS-3 role available
  • Position is located at 31 Forensic drive Macleod, Victoria
  • Possess a current Victorian Driver Licence and qualify for an appropriate Victoria Police driving authority within three (3) months.
  • Undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
  • provide a DNA sample (buccal swab) for use in laboratory quality control procedures (elimination purposes only).
  • Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.
