This role is being advertised as both ongoing and non-ongoing, with the employment type to be determined in negotiation with the preferred candidate and the PM&C delegate.
Where a non-ongoing specified term is offered, this would be for an initial period of up to 12 months, with possibility of extension up to a maximum period of two years.
A non-ongoing offer may result in conversion to an ongoing offer of employment, however this must occur within 18 months from the opening date of this advertisement.

The Opportunity
The Resilience and Crisis Management Division within PM&C provides high quality advice and support to the Prime Minister and the Cabinet on national preparedness and resilience issues and supports whole-of-government and national coordination of emergency management.

Key functions include:
  • Working with Commonwealth agencies to ensure the Australian Government’s Crisis Management arrangements are effective and fit-for-purpose for the full spectrum of potential disruptions;
  • Advising the Prime Minister and Cabinet on whole-of-government disaster recovery functions and policy, including Commonwealth support for the states and territories;
  • Supporting the Prime Minister to promote continuous improvement and provide assurance of Australia’s short and long-term recovery arrangements;
  • Offering Commonwealth agencies support in navigating government processes – in particular the Cabinet process, the Budget cycle and the legislative process; and
  • Advising the Prime Minister and Cabinet on whole-of-government efforts to develop national resilience. This is an opportunity to contribute to a priority for government that directly affects Australians’ safety, security and prosperity.
We have various roles requiring skills in policy, program management, stakeholder engagement and communications.
A merit pool may be established and used to fill the same or similar vacancies for 18 months from the date of advertising.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, keep calm under pressure and focussed on outcomes – including the flexibility to change to support PM&C’s response to crisis or other urgent priorities; and
  • Experience managing staff to deliver high quality advice while progressing key initiatives and priorities for the department.

The successful candidate will be required to be assessed through our pre-employment screening checks, such as an Australian Criminal History Check.
