Job description

Who are we?

It’s an exciting time to join our organisation! On 1 March 2023, two of Australia’s most successful member-owned banking organisations merged, to form Heritage and People’s Choice - Australia’s leading mutual banking organisation and a genuine, member-owned alternative to the major banks.

We exist to create a better future for our members and the communities in which they live.

We are 100% member owned, with approximately 720,000 members and 1,900 employees.  We have dual head offices in Adelaide and Toowoomba, and 95 branches across South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and the Northern Territory, trading under two brands, Heritage Bank and People's Choice.

When you come to work at Heritage and People’s Choice, you’ll be joining a team of inclusive, friendly, and motivated employees who value making a difference every day for our members, community, and the planet. We are committed to creating an outstanding working environment where you feel supported, can continue to develop and are proud advocates of our members and our business.

About the role

We are on the lookout for an experienced AI and Automation Developer who will be responsible for developing and implementing innovative AI-powered solutions to automate a wide range of tasks across the bank. You will work closely with other members of the Intelligent Automation team, as well as business stakeholders, to ensure that your solutions are aligned with the bank's strategic goals. You will have a strong understanding of Artificial Intelligence (AI) including Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing (NLP), with a focus on Generative AI. You will also have experience with Robotic Process Automation (RPA).

Typical Responsibilities:

  • Prioritise AI use cases and opportunities across various bank functions.
  • Develop and deploy new AI solutions, integrating them into new and existing systems and workflows.
  • Continuously monitor AI models for performance, accuracy, and potential drift. Implement solutions for model updates and improvements.
  • Be a key contributor to the development of an AI strategy and roadmap for the bank, outlining short-term and long-term goals for AI implementation.
  • Ensure that AI solutions adhere to legal, ethical, and regulatory standards, including data privacy and security.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of AI models, processes, and decisions for the purpose of maintenance, knowledge sharing and auditing.

About you

This will help you to develop innovative and effective solutions to solve the bank's automation challenges.

You will need to be able to explain your solutions to business stakeholders who may not have a deep understanding of AI and NLP. This requires the ability to explain the benefits of your solutions clearly and concisely and how they will impact the bank's bottom line.
  • Knowledge of both risks and benefits of AI and managing them. It is important to be aware of the potential risks associated with AI, such as bias, discrimination, and security vulnerabilities. You should also be able to develop and implement strategies to mitigate these risks.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Extensive experience in implementing Artificial Intelligence based solutions.
  • Deep understanding on Machine Learning, with a focus on Natural Language Processing (NLP) including Generative AI.
  • Strong programming skills in AI-related languages such as Python.
  • Proficiency in NLP/LLM libraries and frameworks and familiarity with NLP techniques for developing chatbots, conversational AI, or similar automation solutions. chatbot development and LLM-based solutions.
  • Understanding of machine learning algorithms, including supervised learning, unsupervised learning, and reinforcement learning.
  • Ability to work with large datasets, perform data cleaning and preprocessing.
  • Experience in RPA would be beneficial.
