About the Role:
Proa is looking for a Modeller / Software Engineer to join our talented Software Development team, who will be responsible for helping to operate and improve the Proa Forecasting System and our Energy Management Systems. This role will give you the opportunity to join the forefront of the energy transition, working on highly advanced modelling and software systems for critical infrastructure, especially Solar Farms and Weather Stations.
Your responsibilities will include:
Operation and supervision of the Proa Forecasting System (PFS), a software package with elements written in MATLAB, Python and Bash.
- Development of new and existing models for forecasting solar output, energy demand, and other elements critical for the operation of renewable energy plants in Australia.
- Developing the software infrastructure necessary to improve and scale Proa’s services
- Working with large datasets of weather and energy data
- Work on Proa’s advanced Energy Management Systems, exploring new dispatch strategies for solar + battery assets.
- Project delivery and customer support.
- Engagement in consultancies for key stakeholders in the energy sector.
- Interaction with all members of the team, with involvement in most operational aspects of the business.
What you'll bring:
Bachelor’s degree in science, maths, engineering, or software development. A Masters degree/PhD will be positively assessed but is not required.
- 5-10 years of experience in the workforce. Experience in fields involving software development, analytics, physical modelling and IT architecture will be beneficial.
- Strong programming skills, with experience in Python, MATLAB and Bash being beneficial.
- Sound analytical thinking, with a clear ability for problem-solving and working on complex systems and processes.
- All-rounder attitude, comfortable to work in an objective based environment.
- Rigorous time management.
- Good writing and communication skills.
- Experience in the following will add merit to the application:
o Experience in the energy sector
o Experience in building and testing Machine Learning algorithms
o Experience in mathematical optimization or control systems
o Experience in data wrangling or data analytics
o Experience in network infrastructure (sys-admin skills)
o Experience in cyber security
o Experience with Microsoft Azure or other cloud computing services
o Experience modelling weather systems and physics-based algorithms
o Experience with high level planning for large software projects
This is great, but not required, if you:
● Have a real passion for renewable energy as demonstrated by previous internships, work experience or projects.
● Familiarity with technical design and modelling.
