Who we are
The RSPCA is Australia's pre-eminent animal welfare organisation with an exceptional history of delivering outcomes for animals. RSPCA NT is an incorporated association in the NT and is a member of RSPCA Australia. Despite being the smallest RSPCA society, RSPCA NT achieves leading successful outcomes and has strong community support.
The role
Starting as a casual with the potential of going part-time, the Animal Attendant role is primarily focused on providing overall care to animals in the RSPCA NT shelter as well as providing exceptional customer service. This includes all aspects of animal husbandry such as cleaning, feeding, basic medicating and record keeping. Candidates also assist in the adoption process and a professional interface with the public is essential. The role includes:
- Working closely with the rest of the RSPCA NT team including vet team, other Animal Attendants and management. Seek out opportunities to assist others,
- Provide a high level of care to all shelter animals including cleaning, feeding, medicating (where authorised to do so), training and enrichment,
- Undertake tasks in allocated area in a thorough and professional manner, ensuring all tasks are checked upon completion,
- Ensure all medical and general file records are maintained daily,
- Monitor animal health and behaviour and report any issues immediately,
- Understand and abide by all established policies and procedures,
- Facilitate adoption matches,
- Maintain a positive and engaging environment for new and existing staff and volunteers,
- Assist with administrative (office reception) tasks and meal break coverage as required,
- Complete alternate tasks as relevant and directed, including but not limited to linen washing, minor property maintenance and general cleaning.
Your experience
Ideally you will have:
- A valid driver’s licence,
- Previous experience in animal welfare/husbandry,
- Be of good health and able to cope with a physically demanding role,
- Be of sound character with good references.
