Summary:
The Animal Attendant is responsible for providing care and support to animals in various industries. This role involves ensuring the well-being and safety of animals, maintaining cleanliness of their living spaces, and assisting with their feeding and exercise routines. The Animal Attendant may work in zoos, veterinary clinics, animal shelters, research facilities, or any other industry that involves animal care.
Responsibilities:
- Provide daily care and attention to animals, including feeding, grooming, and exercising.
- Monitor and maintain the cleanliness and hygiene of animal enclosures or living spaces.
- Observe animals for any signs of illness, injury, or behavioral changes, and report to the appropriate personnel.
- Assist with the administration of medications or treatments as directed by veterinarians or supervisors.
- Ensure the safety and security of animals by following established protocols and procedures.
- Handle and restrain animals when necessary, using proper techniques and equipment.
- Maintain accurate records of animal health, behavior, and any incidents or observations.
- Assist in the transportation of animals within the facility or to external locations, as required.
- Collaborate with other team members to provide a positive and enriching environment for animals.
- Adhere to all relevant regulations, guidelines, and ethical standards related to animal care.
Qualifications/Licenses:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience working with animals is desirable, not essential.
- Australian Driving License and reliable transport
- Knowledge of animal behavior, nutrition, and basic healthcare.
- Ability to handle and restrain animals safely and confidently.
- Strong observation and communication skills.
- Physical stamina and ability to perform tasks that may involve lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and occasional overtime.
- Compassion, patience, and a genuine love for animals.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new techniques and procedures.
