We are currently seeking to appoint an Applied Statistician/Postdoctoral Research Associate forStatistical Bioinformatics or Statistical Genetics to work on a project at the University of Sydney. As indicated in the position titles, although a PhD is not a requirement, we are also willing to recruit someone interested in a Postdoctoral position. The successful applicant will also be part of the Sydney Precision Data Science Centre and School of Mathematics and Statistics.
We have a strong team working on various aspects of applied statistics and bioinformatics research. In particular, we are interested in applying data science and applied statistics methods to solve intractable problems in medicine and digital health. Your key responsibilities will be to:work independently and as part of a team to conduct data analysis on large-scale international biomedical datasetsestablish capacity in relationship to Global Biobank data including but not limiting to UK Biobankpublish research papers in international peer-reviewed journals and present at conferencesmentor undergraduate and postgraduate students.

As such, we see the importance of recruiting talent aligned to these values and are looking for a Applied Statistician/Postdoctoral Research Associate who has:a strong Statistical Genetics backgroundhigh-dimension data analysis experiencedemonstrated ability to conduct research / scholarly activities under limited supervision and as part of a multidisciplinary research teamgood organisational and administrative skills with attention to detailsuperior computer programming or software development skillsgood communication skills (both written and oral). Applicants who demonstrate the following desirable criteria will be highly regarded:experience in single cell data or Statistical modelling, with preference to experience in analysing high-dimensional regression models and variable selection experience with low level processing or performing initial data analysis on recent platforms of omics data such as next generation sequencing or mass spectrometryexperience with statistics or biomedical data science consultingability to assist researchers from other disciplines as well as work with PhD students within the statistics bioinformatics research groupcomprehensive experience of common online bioinformatics software and databases such as PRIDE, UniProt, GenBank or BLAST etcstrong general IT skills, including familiarity with Linux/Unix environments and HPC server.
