Role DescriptionAt CLASS Locksmiths we value and treat every single employee as a major asset. Our workplace relations policy is built on the important principles of fairness, total respect, openness, honesty and reward and recognition for quality contribution. These principles are integral to our day-to-day operations and new staff are trained on these values and existing staff refreshed on their importance throughout each year.
We pay above award wages even for first year apprentices and other benefits include paid leave on your birthday, performance bonuses after a qualifying period, and employee excellence reward and recognition.
We operate in an open supportive team environment where all staff and customers are treated respectfully. We focus on helping each other to best help our customers.
We have been serving the businesses and residents of Canberra and surrounds for forty years – and we have an outstanding track record and reputation for being one of the best locksmith businesses.
The role is on the job training augmented with a TAFE course.
You will be based in our Fyshwick workshop and will be trained by our qualified senior locksmiths – and the training put into practice by carrying out real locksmith work activities.
The training will involve all aspects of locksmithing including:
- Automotive – lockouts, fitting keys, repairs, electronic transponder systems
- Safes – Safe cracking, fitting keys, picking locks, electronic safe locks, refurbishing
- Workshop – Cutting keys, repairing locks, building key systems, pinning cylinders, counter sales
- On Road – Fitting locks, repairs, picking locks, installations
The apprenticeship is 4 years in duration and includes 3 years of TAFE attendance – “Certificate III Mechanical Engineering (Locksmithing)”. The TAFE campus is located in Ultimo Sydney NSW (since Canberra TAFE does not offer the required course). Apprentices attend TAFE as block release students (1 week at a time) approximately 7 or 8 times per year. The government provides an allowance to help with accommodation and transport to and from Sydney.
