About the Division / Team

Our Hunter Valley network primarily services the Hunter Valley coal chain - the world's largest thermal coal export operation - by providing an efficient and reliable rail transportation system between mines and the Port of Newcastle. We manage the movement of around 250 trains per day on our network. Around half of these being coal trains and the other half comprised of passenger services, as well as grain, general intermodal, and other bulk freight trains.

About the Opportunity

This apprenticeship program offers an incredible chance to gain the skills and knowledge you need to become a qualified Plant Mechanic. You'll receive hands-on training while working alongside experienced professionals, all while earning a nationally recognized qualification.

What you'll do:

• Learn the theory of the trade through TAFE courses.
• Gain practical experience maintaining, repairing, and upgrading mechanical and electrical equipment used in the railway environment.
• Operate plant and equipment to support maintenance activities.
• Collaborate effectively with colleagues, contractors, and customers.
• Follow safety procedures and contribute to a positive safety culture.

About You

To ensure success in this position, applicants will be able to demonstrate:

Essential Selection Criteria:

• Must be 17 years of age or above.
• Must be practically and mechanically minded.
• Must be able to think logically and clearly.
• Must be self-motivated, disciplined and punctual.
• Must possess good vision and be able to identify different colours.
• Have a dedicated commitment to Safety and Quality Assurance.
• Written and oral communication skills appropriate to the duties of the position.
• Holder of a Class C drivers License.
