Our four-year apprenticeship program blends theoretical education (off-the-job) with practical training (on-the-job). You'll study the theoretical aspects of your apprenticeship at a Registered Training Organisation, such as TAFE, and gain hands-on experience in our sugar mills or ethanol distillery.
To support you throughout your apprenticeship, we cover your trade training fees (TAFE) and provide a full trade-specific toolkit, uniforms, and personal protective equipment.
Program Structure
Our apprenticeship pathways are a four-year skill-based learning program that includes on-the-job training, vocational training, professional development, personal growth, and structured support. As part of the program, all new apprentices will begin with the Wilmar Safe Start Program, which runs for two weeks.

We have 35 apprenticeships which will commence in December 2024, and the available disciplines include:
- Certificate III Electrotechnology (Electrician)
- Certificate III Engineering - Fabrication trade (Boilermaker)
- Certificate III Engineering - Mechanical trade (Fitter & Turner)
- Certificate III Engineering - Mechanical trade (Diesel Fitter)

- Ingham Region - Victoria and Macknade Mills
- Ayr Region - Inkerman, Invicta, Kalamia and Pioneer Mills
- Sarina Region - Plane Creek Mill, Sarina Distillery
- Proserpine Region - Proserpine Mill
Candidate Requirements
The successful candidates must be able to demonstrate:-
- Minimum sound achievements in Math and English
- Electrical Trade candidates must also have successfully completed General Mathematical (with High to Very High Achievement); Mathematical Methods; Specialist Math and or Physics
- Ability to follow Work Health Safety and Environment policies and procedures
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Introductory computer skills
- Teamwork skills to achieve objectives
- Ability to travel for vocational training
The selection process will include an online application, review of school results, aptitude testing, interviews, practical testing, pre-employment medical and reference checks.
Candidates who are successful after our initial shortlisting process must be prepared to travel in order to participate in one our recruitment assessment centres.
