The role requires application of systems engineering principles and technical expertise for major, minor and administrative configuration changes and includes risk management, requirement analysis, design review and assurance activities.
As part of your duties, you will be accountable to:
- Perform and achieve complex systems engineering work within an integrated workforce;
- Have and maintain a well-developed understanding of and compliance to relevant legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements;
- Organise your workflow and make independent decisions relating to your area of responsibility;
- Interpret and provide advice within the systems engineering function based on legislation, policy and procedures;
- Undertake specialist, technical research and analysis, conduct reviews, assessments and perform procedural or operational support work to achieve results;
- Coordinate and contribute to the work of a team consistent to a work plan and provide advice and assistance on methods of task completion to team members;
- Review and develop the quality of work undertaken by others and identifying opportunities for on-the-job training within a work unit; and
- Engage and communicate with stakeholders to identify, respond and provide advice on issues to achieve work unit and Defence outcomes.
The Maritime Cross-Platform Systems Program Office (MCPSPO), within Maritime Systems Division, is responsible for the provision of seaworthy materiel in support of the Australian Defence Force. The MCPSPO sustains complex military systems and equipment within its configuration baseline. MCPSPO relies on a large industry base (in-country and overseas) for supply support, engineering support, preventative maintenance and corrective maintenance onboard HMA Ships and at RAN Shore Establishments. MCPSPO is the lead agency for delivery of cross-Class sustainment services and advice across the maritime environment.
MCPSPO sustains and manages a range of complex military systems and supplies, through an extensive network of industry partners, domestic and off-shore. Our operating environment is complex and challenging, and requires exceptional contract and relationship management skills.
MCPSPO is comprised of the following functions: Commercial, Sustainment, Naval Operation and Engineering cells supported by Business management. The teams work in a complex, fast paced environment as part of a diverse and inclusive Branch environment that encompasses a variety of knowledge, skills and experience within a supportive hierarchy.

Our Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will be a degree qualified professional engineer, with the ability to perform complex engineering activities and tasks and provide support in the field of systems engineering under limited direction. They will demonstrate the following:
- Accountability for exercising assigned engineering authorities and any Technical Regulatory Authority delegations;
- Ability to research, apply and contribute to the development of technical engineering reports, briefs, presentations and documentation for review;
- Application of technical engineering knowledge and experience, understanding priorities to research, and defining issues and implementing corrective actions;
- Ability to build and sustain positive relationships with team members and actively participate in team work and group activities.;
- Effective communication with internal and external stakeholders via reports, written correspondence, calculations, discussions and presentations;
- Ability to assess technical and design packages including scoping, planning, reviewing and provide recommendations for consideration;
- Ability to analyse that the delivered materiel meets requirements and legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks and provide recommendations for consideration; and
- Ensure safety aspects of Defence materiel systems are considered and incorporated into systems engineering activities and tasks.
