Open Arms is the gateway for veterans and their families to access services, including counselling, to improve their mental health and wellbeing. It promotes and provides mental health and wellbeing services toward improved outcomes and quality of life for veterans and their families. This is achieved through providing client centered, trauma informed, recovery oriented, needs driven and compassionate care, informed by the voice of the community.The Business Operations Branch provides administrative and business support to Open Arms counselling services and the division.The APS 6 Departmental Officer role assists in the delivery of organisational objectives and Open Arms program by accessing and analysing data and creating impactful visualisations to inform the delivery of the program. The work of this role informs policy development, service delivery, program evaluation and veteran wellbeing outcomes. Activities include day to day management of data integration processes and contract reporting matters. The occupant of this role will focus on managing data in all its forms, analysing information structures and developing innovative ways of displaying and articulating information, and provide support to the Director and Assistant Director in adhoc tasks and priorities.Duties
  • Acquiring data from primary or secondary data sources and maintaining data structures to understand business problems and generate insight
  • Interpreting data and analysing results using standardised techniques
  • Developing and implementing data analyses, data collection systems and other strategies that optimise quality
  • Identifying new data sources, collecting data, sourcing missing data
  • Generating information and insights from data sets and identifying trends and patterns including removing and cleaning data holdings
  • Preparing SOPS and reports for executive and project teams
  • Creating visualisations in data analytics software platforms such as Tableau
  • Implementing ideas and strategies to achieve service delivery efficiencies and/ or cost reductions within accountabilities
  • Assisting the Director / Assistant Director with continuous process improvement, problem solving and best practice reviews
  • Supporting data governance and data integration processes while maintaining data quality as per client requirements
  • Supporting Director / Assistant Director with ad-hoc unscheduled tasks and data requests when required
  • Contributing to continuous improvement and other support activities across the project including business as usual activities by providing leadership, knowledge and skills transfer to cross functional team members.
Eligibility
  • Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS).
  • All applicants external to DVA offered employment will be required to successfully undergo a pre-engagement screening check, even if they have a security clearance. The screening check is conducted in accordance with the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework requirements.
Desirable Skills, Qualifications and Experience
  • 3+ years’ experience in data analytics with large data sets would be highly desirable
  • Experience in drawing insights, building narratives and reporting on data sets
  • Experience in SQL, and data visualisation tools highly desired (Tableau preferred)
  • Ability to manage and prioritise multiple tasks in a fast paced environment
  • Experience working with clinical/health data
