The Role
The Communications Technician will perform the following activities:
- Perform the duties of a Tradesperson, Self-Certifying Tradesperson, or Trade Supervisor for preventative and corrective maintenance of Air Traffic Management systems and ancillary equipment.
- Undertake technical investigations to identify and rectify faults or maintenance deficiencies, and generate technical reports as required.
- Perform a Technical Operations Monitoring function and duty technician function (including callouts) as required.
- Operate hand and power tools in varying work conditions such as heights, confined spaced and outdoor conditions.
- Manage and maintain spares, publications, support equipment and tooling.
- Complete the computerised maintenance documentation, and compile maintenance reports as required.
- Carry out all workplace activities in accordance with WH&S and technical regulatory requirements.
- Provide junior maintenance staff with guidance and technical leadership.
- Undertake shift work and/or weekend work if required.
- Build and sustain positive relationships as an effective team member.
Applicants deemed suitable with exceptional skills, experience or expertise may be eligible for an Individual Flexibility Arrangement (IFA) in accordance with the IFA provisions of the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement 2024. This may include additional remuneration and/or the variation of other conditions. In these cases, total remuneration will comprise of base salary + IFA additional remuneration + superannuation.
About our Team
453 Squadron Pearce Flight provides preventative and corrective maintenance to Air Traffic Management, Aircraft Navigation Aids and Surveillance Systems across four sites in the Bullsbrook WA area, all in support of RAAF Base Pearce's flying activities.
Our Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be someone seeking to commence a career in the Australian Public Service commencing at the APS 3 level and who is able satisfy the mandatory qualifications stipulated. This candidate would also have the technical aptitude and drive to allow them to successfully complete necessary Air Traffic Management System training to satisfy their positional KPI’s as well as support their career advancement to the APS 5 level. Only existing or formerly qualified people, within the Air Traffic Management maintenance community may qualify for a higher APS starting level, although a IFA is available to right candidate that provides for additional remuneration above base salary.
