Your new company

This agile Federal Government Department administers the Government's commitment to caring for vulnerable members of society. They deliver its services through offices in every Australian capital city and a number of regional centres. The work of the department is diverse, targeted toward addressing a broad range of needs amongst the community. This includes providing access to programs and services such as health and community care, rehabilitation, counselling, income support, compensation, home loans and insurance, commemorative services and education assistance.


Your new role

This Section is filling a vacancy as the Assistant Operations Manager in the Domestic Team. The Section is responsible for the planning and delivery of domestic commemorative services. The range of responsibilities include the development and delivery of:
  • Event operations and logistics
  • Ceremonial and service content
  • Governance, procurement, financial management and support services

Please note that the role involves a combination of office-based work, and periods spent in outdoor locations.

As an APS5 you will:

  • Contribute positively to business planning of the section, assisting with the management of resources, risks, sharing workload and skill sharing.
  • Effectively support relationships and liaise with a range of key stakeholders including Australian government and international agencies, contractors and the veteran community.
  • Assist in the preparation of high quality and accurate written documentation, including briefing papers and ministerial correspondence, budget management, and presentations along with commemorative service related documents.
  • Prioritise and manage multiple and parallel tasks, remaining flexible, agile and willing to adapt to operational needs, as required.
  • Display high level attention to detail and analyse information to make sound judgements; and
  • Answer general enquiries from the public by both email and telephone, as required.

What you'll need to succeed

You will have the ability to transfer your skills between functions/activities based on business requirements. You may be required to support delivery of an overarching commemorative program in relation to administrative and governance functions including written communications, briefing material and ministerial correspondence, financial management, corporate reporting, governance, secretariat, procurement and contracting activities.

Preferred skills/experience:

  • Has experience in a project support role
  • Is highly organised and can operate with a level of autonomy
  • Has strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Feels comfortable working in a face paced environment

You will need to be an Australian Citizen and have the ability to pass a police check to be eligible for this position.


What you'll get in return

You will be engaged on an attractive hourly rate contract an initial 6 month period with a view to extend. This Department is ideally situated in close vicinity to shops, cafes, restaurants and public transport.
