The Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC) is Australia’s national criminal intelligence agency. We advise senior decision makers on serious and organised crime impacting Australia. We are a full member of the National Intelligence Community, an Attorney General’s Portfolio agency, and a member of the Five Eyes Law Enforcement Group.

The ACIC is at the forefront of tackling serious and organised crime targeting Australia, both within our borders and offshore. Our staff operate against a pervasive, transnational and globalised criminal threat, and work hard to realise an Australia hostile to criminal exploitation. About the branch
Intelligence Insights is responsible for coordinating and delivering national strategic intelligence outputs and information services in the agency with a team of strategic intelligence analysts, specialist officers and data scientists.

We provide intelligence advice to senior law enforcement, national security executive and our international partners on current and emerging issues concerning organised crime in Australia through the delivery of:
  • strategic criminal intelligence assessments to the ACIC Board and other partners
  • strategic criminal intelligence in support of ACIC operations
  • intelligence assessments and advice that inform law enforcement and other broader government responses, including policy and legislative reform.
About the role
Strategic intelligence analysts make a leading contribution to the planning, development and production of intelligence outputs and outcomes which influence how we respond to serious and organised crime. Focusing on the production of value-added product as a result of the collection, evaluation and analysis of information, strategic intelligence analysts work closely with other intelligence professionals to drive operational activity.

Our ideal candidate
  • Has demonstrated experience in strategic and/or high-level operational intelligence environments, including knowledge of intelligence processes, methodologies and techniques.
  • Has demonstrated ability to carry out complex intelligence projects and achieve results under pressure.
  • Applies advanced data interrogation, research and threat assessment methodologies, including the use of information technology to undertake analysis.
  • Has excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Has demonstrated ability to contribute to strategic thinking and maintain a high level awareness of the serious and organised crime environment to identify priorities, including new and emerging threats and nationally-significant criminal activity.
  • Has developed leadership skills, including the ability to take on coordination roles involving wide consultation and liaison, as well as the ability to mentor junior staff and contribute to a collegiate approach within the team that promotes a culture of flexibility and improvement.
Desirable qualifications
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or thematic knowledge of serious and organised crime and/or national security issues will be highly regarded.
Training
The ACIC values life experience and a variety of practical skills and experiences, just as highly as we value formal qualifications and study. As an operational intelligence agency, the ACIC is committed to ensuring its staff have access to relevant training and development. On commencement with the ACIC, some staff may be required to undertake specialist training or seek recognition of prior learning.

To be eligible for our intelligence analyst roles, you must be able to meet the following requirements:
  • ability to successfully complete nominated Criminal Intelligence Development Program courses.
Eligibility
  • If this role is being advertised as ongoing and non-ongoing, it may be offered as ongoing or non-ongoing subject to operational requirements and/or candidate preference. Where a non-ongoing position is offered, the role will be filled for a specified term of up to 18 months. A specified term may be extended up to a maximum period of 3 years.
  • Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the APS, unless the agency head has agreed otherwise, in writing. For further information, contact the Recruitment Team.
  • The Australian community expects ACIC employees to maintain the highest levels of security and integrity. Successful applicants will be required to obtain and maintain, or continue to hold, the required security clearance for this role. All ACIC employees are required to hold a minimum Negative Vetting 1 security clearance, unless otherwise specified.
  • All candidates must satisfy an Organisational Suitability Assessment (OSA) prior to being offered employment at the ACIC. This requires the applicant to undergo character and background screening, and participate in a psychological assessment. Please refer to our Character Standards for further information.
  • To be eligible to work at the ACIC, you must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Being fully vaccinated ensures the health and safety of all employees, and the Australian community.
