Description
Reporting to the Pearl Farm Supervisor your role as a Pearl farm hand is to perform routine tasks in maintenance, seeding, harvest and all husbandry techniques associated with the production and growth of oyster stock.
Main Duties and Tasks
- Cleaning, sorting and grading oysters, and monitoring their growth and survivorship.
- assisting with farm layout and constructing panels, long-lines, and bottom lines
- checking and looking after equipment and hardware
- operating pumps, deck machinery and other equipment
- husbandry cleaning techniques
- General maritime deckhand tasks
- operating equipment such as winches, 4WD vehicles and tractors
- seeding and harvesting oysters for pearls
- assist with hatchery feeding and spawning activities.
- Assist with the transportation of oyster stock.
- collecting and recording growth, production, and water quality data
This role has a level of skill commensurate with the qualifications outlined below.
- AQF Certificate I, or compulsory secondary education (ANZSCO Skill Level 5)
