Description

Reporting to the Pearl Farm Supervisor your role as a Pearl Farm hand is to perform routine tasks in maintenance, seeding, harvest and all husbandry techniques associated with the production and growth of oyster stock.

Main Duties and Tasks

• ·         Cleaning, sorting and grading oysters, and monitoring their growth and survivorship.

• ·         assisting with farm layout and constructing panels, long-lines, and bottom lines
•  
• ·         checking and looking after equipment and hardware
•  
• ·         operating pumps, deck machinery and other equipment
•  
• ·         husbandry cleaning techniques
•  
• ·         General maritime deckhand tasks
•  
• ·         operating equipment such as winches, 4WD vehicles and tractors
•  
• ·         seeding and harvesting oysters for pearls
•  
• ·         assist with hatchery feeding and spawning activities.
•  
• ·         Assist with the transportation of oyster stock.
•  
• ·         collecting and recording growth, production, and water quality data

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

This role has a level of skill commensurate with the qualifications outlined below.

• AQF Certificate I, or compulsory secondary education (ANZSCO Skill Level 5)

For this role a short period of on-the-job training may be required in addition to or instead of the formal qualification. In some instances, no formal qualification or on-the-job training may be required.
