We are currently seeking motivated and highly experienced personnel to join the Copper South Australia (CuSA) Major Projects team. These roles will help build and develop the Major Projects team deliver the Copper South Australia Growth program.

 

The Program, endorsed in the LoA25 Target Plan includes a series of growth investments to deliver incremental copper units from South Australia. These investments are in various stages of development and will transition to the Major Projects team during CY24.

 

About the Role

 

We are seeking forward thinking and talented individuals to take on the key role of Area Lead Engineering within the CuSA Major Project Portfolio.

 

This is an exciting opportunity for a high performing professional to work with a range of senior stakeholders where your contribution will have significant impact on the business.

 

The role within the Engineering & Quality Function, reporting directly into the Manager Engineering. The Area Lead will be held responsible for engineering performance and outcomes across all phases within a designated area.

 

The role will provide leadership to a highly skilled and diverse engineering team, consisting of Project and Principal Engineers, focused on all aspects of engineering through project framing, development and execution of plans, assurance over process and outcomes and integration into construction and handover.

 

 

In this role, the Engineering Area Lead will provide expertise to guide the study team, delivery team and engineering service providers through project and discipline engineering, along with a deep understanding of engineering processes to provide great outcomes for CuSA Major Projects and the Asset.  The role will support the study team, through the project development lifecycle phases to achieve successful submission of investment approval requests.

 

You will have the opportunity to drive the following activities:

  • Provide engineering support to the project management, construction, commissioning and operations readiness teams across the project lifecycle
  • Responsible for delivering engineering solutions based on a deep understanding of the business and project lifecycle, incorporating the principles of value engineering and engineering effectiveness.
  • Identify, engage and manage a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to delivering engineering designs that align to BHP standards and hold the Engineering Service Provider accountable to manage all design risks.
  • Contribute and support all sustainability and safety in design processes across the project development (HAZID / HAZOP / HAZAN etc.)
  • Contribute to verifying facility construction methodologies are in alignment with project engineering standards, the basis of design and Sustainability in Design processes.
  • Review project performance and adapt plans, altering cost, timing or quality constraints in line with stakeholder expectations to continually maximise the engineering value across the project.
  • Anticipate and address engineering risks, variances and quality issues across the project by making risk informed decisions utilising proactive change management before they impact project delivery.

About You

 

You are strategic and organized with demonstrated project engineering knowledge and a passion for getting outcomes that benefit both business and community. With your proven ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams, you will enjoy playing an integral role in influencing value engineering across BHP.

 

In addition, to be successful in this role, you will ideally possess the following:

  • Demonstrated relevant experience with tertiary qualifications in Engineering with relevant experience in Project Management. 
  • Experience with Major Project (>$1B) is highly desirable.
  • Experience with Smelting / Hot Metal / Mining project is desirable.
  • Previous experience in managing and developed teams and be confident in working within a complex environment.
  • A deep understanding of Major Project management phases across the full project lifecycle with respect to capex, technical and project engineering requirements
  • In depth experience in working with engineering service providers
  • You lead by example, anticipate engineering issues and facilitate resolution.  
  • An experienced professional with a passion for guiding, developing and influencing teams and individual team members through mentoring and coaching you will bring strong leadership abilities with a demonstrated ability to lead a team that delivers high performance.

Location

 

This role is based in Adelaide on a Monday-Friday roster, offering a quality standard of living without the high costs of most other Australian capital cities. Adelaide offers a Mediterranean climate, beach-side lifestyle, cosmopolitan cafés and restaurants and world-class wine regions just an hour away.  All this plus an annual international festivals and events calendar make Adelaide a vibrant, cultured, friendly environment to live, work and play in.

 

This role will also involve some site travel as required.
