About the position:

The Wollongong Art Gallery Director is an employee of Wollongong City Council and oversees all aspects of the planning, implementation and evaluation of WAG's exhibitions, programs, acquisitions, strategies, operations and projects.

As the Director of one Australia's leading regional art galleries, you will develop and maintain a creative vision that engages, excites, entertains, and challenges visitors and encourages critical art sector review. You will manage a team of dedicated professionals to bring a diverse range of creative and innovative projects and programs to life.

What you will be doing:

• Lead the development and implementation of WAG's exhibition, public and education programs
  Provide strategic and operational advice in the areas of Galleries, Creative Arts and Cultural Programs
• Utilise highly developed communication and leadership skills to develop the performance of the WAG team, including casuals and volunteers
• Develop effective and productive working relationships with diverse stakeholders, including the community, all levels of Council, other art and cultural institutions and special interest arts and culture groups and committees
• Work with staff to review and evaluate existing programs to ensure WAG remains relevant and meaningful to the Wollongong community and attracts visitors to the city
• Actively promote Wollongong Art Gallery through liaison with Council staff, cultural, community, business and sector representatives
• Prepare and monitor the annual WAG operations, programming and acquisition budgets, and implement and develop income-generating activities, including grants, venue hire and retail services to supplement the existing budget
• Engage with Council stakeholders to facilitate the delivery of outcomes aligned to Council's Community Strategic Plan, 'Framing Our Future 2020 - 2025' WAG Strategic Plan and 'Creative Wollongong' Arts and Cultural Strategy
• Align WAG's Acquisition and collection management strategy with the associated WAG policy
