The Surf Coast Shire is the 4th fastest growing Creative Hotspot in Australia. Our local creatives provide us with opportunities for expression and storytelling and share their voice and vision with the community. The Arts and Creative Economy Team’s role is to enable our local artists and creative practitioners in their endeavours and to showcase the best creative talent in our region.
The role of the Arts Development Officer is to connect and support the local creative community and state-wide arts organisations to deliver the strategic objectives of the surf Coast Shire Council’s Creative Places Strategy 2023-2031.
What you will bring to the role
We are looking for someone who is dedicated to supporting artists and creative practitioners, who has a talent for connection and demonstrable experience developing and delivering programs that enable the creative industries.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Well-developed organisational skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to liaise effectively with residents, arts, culture and heritage groups, Council staff and external agencies.
- Ability to coordinate, supervise and liaise with members of the community.
- A broad knowledge of community arts, culture and heritage activities and processes.
- Ability to attract funding through sponsorship and project grants.
- Ability to support and work with community groups and organisations.
- An understanding of urban, landscape and townscape issues.
- Ability to contribute to the delivery of projects.
Key Selection Criteria
Mandatory Qualifications and Experience
- Tertiary qualification in Arts/Culture/Heritage management or community development and/or equivalent of 5-8 years experience in the sector
- Demonstrated experience in Strategic delivery of Arts programs in a government setting
- Demonstrated experience in Supporting community groups deliver successful arts and cultural activities
- Experience engaging closely with creative communities, preferably in the Surf Coast
- Staff management experience
- Current Victorian driver’s licence
- A current WWCC
- You have the Right to live and work in Australia
- Police Check results that are suitable for this position (will be arranged by Surf Coast Shire Council).
A complete international criminal history check is required if the person has worked or lived overseas for any period of time OR a complete national criminal history check is required if the person has only ever worked in Australia.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- Experience in Local Government.
- Supporting creative industries professional development activities
- Working with First Nations groups to support creative and cultural outcomes
- Strategic policy development
- Marketing and social media experience
