Microsoft Asia is one of the 3 regions of Microsoft Commercial Business and covers 6 Areas: ANZ, India, Greater China Region, Japan, ASEAN, and Korea. All 6 areas of Asia have been a key enabler of the market IT growth through solid partnership with Governments, Enterprise, Small and Medium Corporates, as well as IT partners and consumer partners of the region. Microsoft Finance is a truly global finance team, and and you will be part of the WW FC Community and representing Asia to make each other great and build on each other.   

The Asia Investment Controller primarily oversees management of investment initiatives and processes for Asia Region with strong internal controls. This role measures the return of investment of key investments made by the Region and uses this data to provide actionable insights to stakeholders in the business and in Finance to hold them accountable for long-term profitability and ensure company funds are spent in the most impactful way. This role connects the Region, Area and our Corporate stakeholders. Through partnership and collaboration with Regional and area Finance teams, this role ensures the Asia P&L is optimized and maximsed. This role is vital key member of Asia Regional Financial Controlling team and meaningfully participates in financial controller rhythms and in optimizing the ROI of spend.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications (RQs/MQs)Master's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science or related field AND 10+ years of post-graduate Financial Analysis, Accounting, Controllership or Finance work experience

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • +3-5 year(s) experience in multinationals with multi-product/multi-segment finance roles.
  • +3-5 year(s) work experience in matrix-based organization.
  • +3-5 year(s) work experience in the technology or software industry.
  • Certified Practising Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Accountants (CA) or equivalent certification.

Responsibilities

People: As functional lead of Regional P&L and investments, the Investment Controller is accountable for orchestrating the investment governance process and rhythms. The Asia Investment Controller is also an experienced professional within the Asia Finance community and is expected to contribute to the thought leadership of the community.   

  • In charge of the Asia Management P&L and investments  
  • Key point of contact and responsible for landing investment process and insights in Asia 

Partnership: Trusted advisor of the Asia leadership team and Asia Finance Controllership community. Collaborate with HR (Human Resources), SE&O (Sales Excellence and Operations), Regional Headquarters team, and the business.

  • Responsible for ensuring that all parties deliver maximum value to the business and are continually improving operational effectiveness. 
  • Oversees the budgeting, forecasting, actual, variance and trend analysis for all costs, ensuring insightful commentary provided to area leadership team and offering solutions in P&L optimization.  

Prioritization: The Asia Investment Controller manage the P&L (prioritization of investments and trade-offs on a timely basis to optimise spend and in line with financial accountabilities) and deliver insights on P&L investment initiatives

  • Measure and align investments to outcomes
  • Accountable for driving ROI culture and discipline across the organization, including leveraging standard way to measure ROI; be the champ for ROI process across Region
  • Deliver focused insights to the Region and Areas to ensure maximum ROI and strategic focus – this can include all controllable costs (HC, external resources, marketing, ECIF). Share learnings of prior investments ROI across the area and drive improvements.
  • Focus on highest ROI activities of investment, which could be in marketing, ECIF, external resources
  • Establish investment process across Region, driving clarity and agility
  • Chair and drive Asia Investment Council, by providing overview of all available investment sources and the analytics to the Region Finance Leaders and business partners. Implement a governance structure and consistent investment decision process for the Region
  • Identify investment & disinvestment opportunities across the Region

Key indicators of success 

  • High quality marketing, ECIF, external resources, HC process to optimize investments across Region
  • Deliver ROI analytics to the Regional Finance Leaders for informed decision making
  • Review process and track the result of investments vs. expectation across the Region. Obtain learnings and leveraged for on-going decision making
  • Influence high quality investment outcomes for Region, vs activity and process
