Job description

The Opportunity

The Working with Children (WWC) Check is a compulsory screening strategy in Western Australia and the Christmas and Cocos (Keeling) Islands for people who engage in certain paid or unpaid work with children, described as “child-related work” under the Working with Children (Screening) Act 2004.

The Working with Children Screening Unit (WWCSU) aims to safeguard children through the ongoing collection and assessment of information that is relevant to whether a child may be exposed to a risk of harm if an individual is engaged in child-related work.

As an Assessing Officer you will be responsible for assessing applications in accordance with legislation, approved standards and delegations. They are responsible for using knowledge of the dynamics of abuse and offender behaviour, undertake and assist in forensic risk assessments of applicants identified as having criminal records and other concerning conduct that may pose a risk to children and/or people with disability. The role requires the application of conceptual and analytical skills to make recommendations and decisions regarding risk assessment outcomes.

The Assessing Officer supports the Screening and Assessment Team to ensure the development and maintenance of sound practice standards, so that quality decisions are being made within agreed timeframes and provides accurate advice to line management and key stakeholders.

Qualification Requirements
You must have a Bachelors degree in Social Work, Psychology, or relevant human services area to be eligible for this position. All overseas qualifications must be assessed for Australian equivalency.
