Job description

As an Assistant Archivist you will play an important role in ensuring best practice management of the Bank’s archival records, assist with maintaining the repositories and contribute to the advancement of the digitisation program within Information Department.Overall, your focus will be to assist the Bank’s Archivists to appraise, accession, preserve and provide access to records and collection items and assist in the disposal of records with short term retention.Your backgroundYou will have the skills and experience to undertake the following:Conduct regular checks of the Bank’s repositories to ensure relevant standards and requirements are met. Document environmental conditions, ensure security controls are maintained and supervise contractors.Administer the annual calibration of environmental monitoring equipment to ensure compliance and accuracy.Maintain the Repository Lending Service between the Bank's sites and ensure associated metadata in TRIM is updated and accurate. Assist with the accessioning of the Bank’s hardcopy records into TRIM and the disposal programme. Undertake audits of records as required. Assist in the project to relocate the Bank's Archives to offsite storage.Retrieve records to support internal and external research enquiries, the Bank’s curators, Bank History Project, and the Bank's Unreserved platform. Under direction, assist with privacy and copyright checks of records in the open access period.Conduct BAU scanning of the Bank’s archival records. Assist with the condition reporting of hardcopy records in support of the Bank's digitisation programme and the QA of records returned from digitisation against the original record. Under direction, assist with minor conservation work and repairs.Maintain systems for annual reporting, including to the National Archives of Australia.Attend workshops and mandatory training, including in manual handling. Provide administrative support to the Archives team, including with finance, budgets and ordering of specialist items with external suppliers, as required. Prepare meeting requests and maintain the minutes of Archives Team meetings.Undertake other duties, as directed by the Manager, Archives and Archivists.Qualifications or experience in archives or related fields. Willingness to undertake Negative Vetting 1 security clearance. Knowledge of the Reserve Bank of Australia and the Archives Act 1983.This is a fulltime, permanent position, based on site in the Bank’s head office in Sydney.Your teamYou will be joining the Archives team as part of the broader Information Department.
