About us
The primary function of the Office is to provide personal, administrative and logistical support which enables the Governor to perform constitutional, ceremonial and community duties.
The Office of the Governor is led by the Official Secretary and operates in five streams:
- Events and Engagement
- Estate Management
- Strategic Program Management
- Corporate Services; and
- Hospitality
The Office manages the Governor’s active program of engagement and hospitality and is committed to managing Government House and Grounds as a significant cultural heritage asset for the community of Western Australia.
About the role
We have a unique and exciting opportunity for an Assistant Chef with a willingness to learn pastry work to join our proud and established Hospitality Team.
Be part of a small dynamic team providing support to the Hospitality Manager and Sous Chef to deliver a high level of service to guests and standards across food and beverage.
Integral to the success of this role is a demonstrated enthusiasm and commitment with a keen desire to learn and grow. Flexibility and willingness to work hours outside normal working hours with a schedule aligned to the requirements of the House. The position is primarily Monday to Friday with occasional morning, evening and weekend events.
What will you do?
- Assist the kitchen in all aspects of high-quality food preparation and presentation.
- Assist in dessert preparation, including cookies, baked items and desserts.
- In service food handling and plating.
- Oversee the storage of food and ingredients.
- Dishwashing and cleaning of the kitchen, including fridge, storage areas, catering equipment & utensils.
- Maintain high levels of sanitation.
- Assist the broader Hospitality Team as required.
- Adhere to accepted health and safety practices.
- Liaise with stakeholder groups (in-house and external).
- Respond to changes in client needs and expectations.
- Maintain a professional appearance, with a friendly and happy demeanour whilst remaining discreet within the house.
What we require of you (Selection Criteria)
- Demonstrated experience in a similar role is preferred.
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of the role.
- Comfortable standing for long hours and meet the physical requirements of the job.
- Must be able to lift up to thirty (30) kilograms.
- Excellent personal presentation.
- Ensure full compliance to uniform & grooming standards.
- Self-motivated with a can-do attitude.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to learn new skills.
- Work well under pressure.
- Excellent time management.
- Reliable, adaptable and takes pride in your work.
