AddressArncliffe West Infants School was established in 1912 and is located in the suburb of Turrella in Sydney's south. The urban renewal process has changed the suburb profile with a marked increase in high-rise residential developments. This changing landscape has created a diverse student population with a multicultural mix. The school has a current enrolment of 162 students Preschool to Year 2. 92% of our students are from a non-English speaking background with the predominant cultural groups being 60% Mongolian, 17% Arabic, 3% Indonesian and 3% Mandarin. We currently have 2 students who are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
As one of the few Infants Schools with a public preschool, we offer foundational learning for children from Preschool to Year 2. The school offers onsite swimming education and has extensive green space with outdoor opportunities for play and sporting activities. The school's motto 'Grow in Friendship' encapsulates the ethos of the school where mutual respect and compassion for others is valued.
Arncliffe West Infants School collaborates closely with the Music in Me program ensuring that music is an integral part of all teacher programming. The impact of our music program on student confidence and language acquisition plays a vital role in the success of our students.
Selection Criteria
In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach infants and/or primary:
1. Ability to promote equity by recognising the uniqueness of all cultures, languages and communities to support individual student progress, achievement and wellbeing.
2. Proven ability to provide high quality, differentiated professional learning, based on current research, that develops teacher capacity to improve literacy and numeracy teaching practices for all students.
3. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a dynamic leadership team; strategically planning, leading and monitoring initiatives, and applying evaluative practices to drive continuous improvement.
General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
