Job description

This is a pool recruitment process (Ref 00967). This pool will run for a period of twelve (12) months and may be used to fill ongoing fixed term contracts, secondments, acting/relieving and permanent opportunities.

There is currently one (1) permanent full time position available.

This position is based in the Gold Stealing Detection Unit, based in Kalgoorlie. There is no accommodation available for this position.

POSITION OBJECTIVE

This position undertakes the development, quality and delivery of the Western Australia (WA) Police Force’s intelligence capability that enhances and delivers operational outcomes for the WA Police Force. Undertakes dynamic Tactical Intelligence to ensure the WA Police Force remains a leader in delivering intelligence services in a policing environment.

SPECIALIST PRE-REQUISITES

It is a requirement that the position holder is successful in obtaining and maintaining a NEGATIVE VETTING LEVEL 2 security clearance for the duration of their appointment in the position. Only Australian Citizens are eligible to hold and maintain the NEGATIVE VETTING LEVEL 2 security clearance. Any applicants who are currently not an Australian Citizen must be aware that this is an essential requirement to fulfil this position (please refer to the attached position description). Whilst there is nothing to preclude applicants from applying for the position if they have not yet been granted Australian Citizenship, applicants who are successful should be aware that they cannot be appointed unless they are in the process of applying for Australian Citizenship and are eligible to become an Australian Citizen prior to appointment.

The successful applicant will be required to undertake a psychological assessment to determine their suitability and, as an incumbent, agree to undergo periodical psychological assessments as required.

The successful applicant has completed or completes the Intelligence Analysis course to a competent standard prior to or within six (6) months of appointment to the position.

The successful applicant has completed or completes the Human Source Level two (2) course to a competent standard within twelve (12) months of appointment to the position.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Applicants are asked to make a statement of claim addressing the following two questions. Each answer is not to exceed 500 words and should be tailored to the competency required for this position.

  1. Please describe a time when you had to solve a problem without all necessary information. Tell us the approach you took.
  1. Provide an example of a time when you had to gather and interpret information in a timely manner. What was the outcome?

Applicants are also required to submit a comprehensive Curriculum Vitae (CV) in no more than five (5) pages. Your CV should provide enough detail (dot points are sufficient) to allow the selection panel to assess your skills and experience relevant to the Key Accountabilities of the attached Position Description Form.

It is important to note that your CV should be tailored to clearly outline that you possess transferrable skills and experience relevant to the advertised role.  Your ability to demonstrate this will be a key factor in determining whether you are competitive.

The CV must also include the names and contact details of two (2) referees who can comment on the applicant’s ability to satisfy all of the Essential Work Related Requirements. Applicants should nominate at least one immediate (most contemporary) supervisor/manager unless exceptional circumstances exist.

As part of the assessment process, applicants may also be required to participate in:

  • An initial telephone assessment
  • A computer skills assessment
  • A group assessment
  • A formal interview

Please note: For applicants deemed suitable, all Essential Work Related Requirements listed in the Position Description Form will be assessed at some stage during the selection process.

OTHER CONDITIONS

In addition to the above mentioned vacancy, a POOL is being created to fill future vacancies that may arise within the district. This POOL will remain active for a period of twelve (12) months from the initial appointment. Applicants who are assessed as ‘suitable’ at the completion of this process, will be placed in the POOL and may be considered for future permanent and temporary vacancies as they become available.

Once an applicant from the POOL accepts a permanent position via this selection process, that applicant will be removed from the POOL. Applicants who accept a temporary vacancy will remain in the POOL and will continue to be considered for permanent opportunities as they arise.

Where an applicant in the POOL declines an opportunity (either permanent or temporary), that applicant may forfeit their right to be considered before other suitable applicants who were identified to be less competitive.

Integrity and criminal checks will be conducted if the recommended applicant for a position is not a current WA Police Force employee. Any relocation costs associated with appointment to these positions may be the responsibility of the successful applicants.
