Full Time, Continuing Position

The School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences seeks to appoint an Associate Lecturer in Veterinary Technology. The appointee will provide clinical supervision in Veterinary Nursing & Technology.

This position provides coaching, feedback, and education to Veterinary Technology students to enhance the development of their clinical skills including practical veterinary nursing skills and critical thinking and evaluation skills.

The successful candidate will also provide teaching and course coordination across courses  within the Veterinary Technology Program. The role will include course development in the case of new courses and ongoing evaluation of established courses, along with the introduction of innovative approaches to teaching and competency assessments at all levels of the program.

The Bachelor of Veterinary Technology teaching team is made up of highly experienced veterinary nurses/technologists, veterinarians and animal scientists who are forward thinking researchers and progressive educators. Underpinned by our research and delivered in our first-class educational facilities, our contemporary curriculum allows students to learn in a multi-disciplinary environment to support the delivery of a future focused workforce. Roseworthy campus is a 1600 ha working farm on which students gain practical experience and training. With an international reputation for excellence in dryland agriculture, natural resource management and animal production, the campus is now the major centre for South Australia’s animal and veterinary science research. Recreational facilities on campus include a swimming pool, gym, tennis court and playing fields. Roseworthy campus is located just 50 km north of Adelaide, 10 km outside of the historical town of Gawler and just 30 km away from the heart of the beautiful Barossa Valley. 

To be successful you will need:

  • Strong familiarity through work experience in the practice of veterinary technology or veterinary nursing, including at least three years of clinical or practical experience in a relevant field.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to the delivery and assessment of courses in an undergraduate program in Veterinary Technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of stakeholders in the veterinary and allied professions.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with strong interpersonal skills and the demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of teaching and research teams.

Qualifications:

  • An undergraduate degree in Veterinary Technology or Veterinary Nursing or an undergraduate degree with qualifications in Veterinary Nursing  or equivalent.

Desirable:

  • Postgraduate qualifications or a willingness to enrol in a higher degree e.g. Masters/PhD
  • Previous teaching experience in Veterinary Technology or Veterinary Nursing or equivalent.
