About the role:
In your role as Associate, you will support the Leveraged and Acquisition Finance Portfolio team (LAFP) to support a growing pipeline of M&A activity across Private Equity Sponsor and Corporate clients, across APAC.
The role will sit within the Front Office Credit & Portfolio function (C&P) of the Global Corporate & Investment Banking (GCIB) business in Oceania. The roles support GCIB and LAF in 2 key functional areas –
- LAF Portfolio, APAC - driving regional oversight of the LBO book, ensuring quality analysis and monitoring of credits, with consistent and timely reporting across APAC;
- GCIB C&P, Australia - the management of a portfolio of local LBO deals and Diversified Industries (DI) customers, covering sectors such as Healthcare, Telco & Tech, Consumer, Food Beverage & Agriculture etc.
What you’ll be doing:
APAC LAF Portfolio: Support LAFP teams’ key focus areas below:
- Establish necessary framework, template/s, service standards, heatmap classifications with input from key stakeholders across LAF, ICD and Coverage
- Continue to drive accuracy, completeness, consistency of information over time, incorporating feedback from stakeholders
- Produce monthly/quarterly reports at the individual borrower level and at the APAC level including key information such as Credit Exposures, Borrower Ratings, Returns, Leverage Levels across Countries, Sectors and Sponsors
- Help identify, monitor and manage concerns as they arise, including seeking advice and/or action from Coverage, LAF, ICD, Sponsor coverage, etc
- Present / guide management on regional trends and lead product improvement projects for the region including engagement with HO and other regions
- Conducting annual credit reviews and internal rating reviews
- Covenant compliance monitoring
- Supporting refinancing and other revenue initiatives across the portfolio
- Coordinating within the MUFG network
- Client interactions on tasks required for on-boarding and account management
- Any other required tasks in accordance with the Bank’s policies and procedures and required to support the broader DI business
- MUFG standards need to be maintained and supported at times
- Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in corporate and institutional lending / debt advisory at a major bank or chartered accounting firm
- Candidates from credit rating agencies, advisory houses, investment management firms or corporate treasury teams will also be considered
- Degree qualified - undergraduate or postgraduate in Accounting, Business, Commerce, Law, Engineering or similar degrees
- Outstanding quantitative and qualitative analytical skills; strong knowledge of finance and accounting
- Previous banking / credit / advisory experience desirable, especially in the corporate / leveraged finance space
- Strong financial analysis, modelling and general excel skills essential and ideally some loan documentation experience
- Possess an understanding of financial and economic markets in general
- Be able to engage in independent research and analysis of customers and markets and apply critical thinking and a high level of attention to detail
- Highly motivated with demonstrated ability to managing conflicting priorities and requests
- Willing to learn about all investment and institutional banking products
- Ability to take initiative and function well within a team
- Strong written and oral communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills with ability to create and maintain relationships at all levels of the organization
- Must maintain high standards of professional and ethical conduct
- Experience with stakeholder management and collaboration with other departments
- MS office experience with key capabilities in Excel, Word and Powerpoint
