Your day as an Associate
The Sustainable Finance branch works in partnership with agencies across government to identify and manage social and governance related impacts to the State's fiscal position, to promote better long-term outcomes for the people of New South Wales. The primary purpose of the role involves:
As an Associate, you will:
- support the Director and team in developing and driving the State's Sustainable Finance Agenda, including policy development, stakeholder engagement and implementation;
- analyse and develop advice on the financial impacts from ESG related risks and opportunities facing the government, including climate related risks to government assets and services;
- support the team in the delivery of high-quality advice and analysis (both quantitative and qualitative), for the Executive, Treasurer, Cabinet and key governance bodies including the Sustainable Finance Steering Committee (SFSC), Climate Risk Steering Group (CRSG) and the State's Assets and Liabilities Committee (ALCO), as well as other projects as they arise.
In this integral role there are a few things we would like for you to have to best support yourself and add value to the people of NSW.
You will be successful in this role if you have:
- an understanding of ESG and sustainability matters and their potential impact on the State's fiscal position, including risks and opportunities from climate change. Direct experience is not essential but would be considered favourably
- understanding of the policy development process
- capacity and desire to communicate with a variety of stakeholders to influence and manage relationships, including communicating financial and policy analysis clearly, accurately and effectively (verbally and in writing)
- ability and desire to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders, with strong interpersonal skills
- broad analytical experience and the ability to interpret data to identify any trends or anomalies, under guidance
- ability to prioritise tasks effectively and ask for support when needed
- tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline such as finance, economics, public policy or a sustainability-related field
- consistent with SBSM's risk management focus, excel skills and a broad understanding of financial markets and accounting standards/practices (not essential but considered favourably)
