Job description

Advertised Vacancy Number: SS/SS896253

This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 3, 2024

A job share arrangement may be considered.

Do you possess excellent communication skills and are you ready to take on new challenges and think differently?

This is a Ministerial Award position which attracts 11 weeks leave during school vacation periods.

The School provides educational support for children with a hearing loss and/or vision impairment from birth to completion of school. SSEN: S is based at the Statewide Services Centre in Padbury and supports children in both public and non-government schools throughout Western Australia.

SSEN: S operates the Deaf Education and Vision Education programs to support eligible children, their schools and families. SSEN: S employs teachers with specialist skills and other specialist staff such as educational audiologists, school psychologists, braille transcribers, Deaf education officers, captioners and educational interpreters.

The Educational Audiologist works within an interdisciplinary team to ensure the educational impact of hearing loss is considered at an individualised level and in a holistic manner when determining eligibility for SSEN: S services. The Educational Audiologist provides specialist information, expert advice and professional learning to SSEN: S personnel. They work collaboratively with other health professionals, including paediatric and cochlear implant audiologists to identify accommodations to facilitate access to education for students with hearing loss, and to ensure delivery of appropriate services.

The suitable applicants will ideally display the ability to perform comprehensive paediatric hearing assessments and evaluations and provide written or verbal interpretation of assessment results, functional implication and management recommendations. As our service encompasses children from birth to Year 13, we are seeking an Educational Audiologist with experience in working with young children and/or school age children and their families. To support students with hearing loss in an educational setting, a sound understanding of best classroom practices to cater for the needs of individual students with a hearing loss is highly desirable.

SSEN: S staff benefit from working in a cohesive and collaborative team environment, sharing common goals and resources in supporting students, schools and parents across a state-wide service. SSEN:S provides opportunities to work state-wide with the provision of current and regular professional learning events, an induction and mentoring program for new and returning staff, and the opportunity to work in an environment of best practice which encourages innovative input of ideas from staff.

The role is based at either Padbury or Hamilton Hill and may also involve travel to hubs in metropolitan and regional areas, which may require overnight stays. It is highly desirable that the successful applicant hold a current and valid ‘C' class drivers licence.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):

  • Extensive clinical experience and knowledge of assessment, diagnosis and management of paediatric audiology clients.
  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills, including effective facilitation skills and the ability to prepare professional tools.
  • High level interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain high level collaborative working relationships in a team environment.
  • Well developed research, conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to identify issues, devise plans and apply strategies to address them.

Applications will be assessed against these work related (selection criteria) of the position. The business needs of the school may also be considered. It is therefore recommended that you consider all information contained in the advertisement and any other related information before applying for the vacancy.
