AddressWe’re looking for an experienced Bar Manager to take the helm at one of Brisbane’s largest and most unique bars!
Stratton Bar & Kitchen is located in Newstead, around the corner from our first venue, Mrs Brown’s. The first thing you notice about Stratton is the space itself: we’re in two huge old WW2-era hangars that have been converted into an industrial modern venue featuring a dining and bar area, function space, and indoor/outdoor courtyard – all serviced by the central, wrap-around bar.
Similar to little sister Mrs Brown’s, Stratton is a buzzy, fast-paced venue that’s not just a bar and not just a restaurant. We're open for lunch and dinner 5 days/wk (Wednesday - Sunday).
The bar is the star of the show at Stratton. The drinks menu is heavily skewed to cocktails, with over 35 on the list. Plus a great selection of interesting wines, tap and bottled beer, spirits and a non-alcoholic range of beverages. Food has been designed to share, and can’t be pigeon-holed into one cuisine – there’s something for everyone. Service is at the heart of it all, there’s no ordering from an app; and guests have their choice of bar service or table service.
Our current Bar Manager, Sid, is leaving in mid-August to chase the 9-5 dream, and we are now looking for someone who can start as soon as possible to ensure a thorough handover, and to learn all the Stratton secrets ;)

"Specifically I'm looking for someone who has experience leading a large team of differing personalities though high volume services, and genuinely loves it.
We do monthly cocktail specials and events that require constant creativity, so the ideal candidate will revel in this opportunity to constantly experiment and share their amazing creations.
We have a dining room, beer garden/atrium, and a massive function space to look after. When all 3 are filled with happy, drinking people while our DJs play on Friday and Saturday nights, I promise it is some of the most fun you can ever have bartending.

The hard skills
We are seeking highly experienced candidates who love the hospitality industry.
You will have:
- Comprehensive beverage knowledge across all aspects of the bar – wine, beer, spirits and cocktails
- Extensive experience in fast-paced venues
- A proven history of customer service excellence
- A solid knowledge of venue costings including the control of labour and COGS to ensure maximum business profitability
- Experience in ensuring streamlined and efficient procedures are followed through in the bar
- Experience in the ongoing training and performance management of the front of house team
- Exceptional communication skills and the ability to relate to and communicate with a wide range of people
- Computer literacy and the ability to communicate directly with customers and suppliers via email or the phone
- A desire to make your mark and create extraordinary experiences for our guests and team
The soft skills
Just as important as the technical skills, you will be a natural leader who thrives on the rush of service and the interaction with your team and guests. You will:
- Be a people person and a seriously ‘hands-on’ manager. You will become one of the faces of the venue and as such, this is not the role for someone who prefers to be behind-the-scenes
- Foster a positive, upbeat working environment for staff as well as the leadership ability to motivate the team on a daily basis to reach targets
- Have a holistic approach to management, be genuinely passionate about the hospitality industry, and have a commitment to the customer
