Engage Psychology has an opportunity for a Trainee Position with our Ipswich-based Behaviour Support Team. You will be part of a collaborative team that values opportunities for growth, pursuit of interests, and excellence in clinical skills.
Provisional Psychologists are encouraged to apply
Behaviour change is a focal point for psychologists throughout their careers. Tertiary and postgraduate psychology courses are starting to include basic components of Behaviour Support within the curriculum; however, opportunities to develop and shape these skills are limited. Having PBS intervention in a psychologist’s “toolkit” is a strength for those who have had the opportunity to receive training and experience.
Provisional psychologists are supported through our 3Pi Program. The ‘Provisional Psychologist Pathway internship’ (3Pi) program provides focussed support to provisional psychologists during their internship to meet the competencies for general registration. Our program includes a supervision package worth $6500 for principal supervision, access to the 3Pi consult group for ongoing practical training and support, in addition to our case consult and PBS consult groups.
What do Behaviour Support Clinicians do?
Our Behaviour Support team works with clients who use challenging behaviour to communicate their needs and wants. The primary goals of PBS intervention are to improve the client’s quality of life and reduce challenging behaviour. We work with people across the developmental spectrum who have disabilities, including mental health, cognitive, sensory, and physical disabilities.
We are fortunate to be able to work with all stakeholders in the client’s life to effect behaviour change. This means on any given day, you may be having a meeting with a teacher, a visit to a residential centre, an observation in a client’s workplace, or teaching a support team how to implement strategies. You will have the opportunity to conduct a range of assessments, develop and implement Behaviour Support plans, provide training, and monitor the effectiveness of plans.
Applicants who have experience working with challenging behaviours are encouraged to apply. The role of Behaviour Support Clinician requires exceptional spoken and written skills and the ability to relate easily with others while remaining professional. Various registrations are required including a Working with Children check, and we can provide support to obtain an NDIS Worker Clearance, and registration with the NDIS Commission to work as a Behaviour Support Practitioner.
