Job description

Bioinformatician / Senior Bioinformatician

About PYC Therapeutics

PYC Therapeutics (ASX: PYC) is a clinical-stage biotechnology company creating a new generation of RNA therapies to change the lives of patients with genetic diseases. The Company utilises its proprietary drug delivery platform to enhance the potency of precision medicines within the rapidly growing and commercially proven RNA therapeutic class. PYC’s drug development programs target monogenic diseases – the indications with the highest likelihood of success in clinical development. The Company was the first to progress a drug candidate for a rare blinding eye disease of childhood into human trials in 2023 and is now progressing multiple ‘fast-follower’ programs into the clinic.

About The Role

Life-changing science is our focus, we start there and everything else follows.

We are seeking a Bioinformatician with transcriptomic, genomic and proteomic analysis experience to support our therapeutic development programs.

The successful candidate will:

  • Engage and collaborate with PYC scientists on experimental design, data analysis and interpretation, and develop a thorough understanding of target biology.
  • Collect, analyse and interpret data while working closely with internal stakeholders and CROs to understand the underlying biological problem.
  • Adapt in-house data processing pipelines, using both open-source and commercially available software, to perform data analysis of large scale -omics data, including transcriptomics, genomics and proteomics.

We are recruiting for a full-time position based at our Nedlands office in Perth, Western Australia. We work a hybrid model, typically WFH 1-2 days per week. From time-to-time teleconferences with collaborators outside of regular business hours are required.

Only candidates with ongoing unrestricted rights to work in Australia will be considered.

We will highly value your diversity of experience and the alternative perspectives you will bring.

Selection criteria - Essential:

  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant hands-on experience designing, analysing and interpreting data from large-scale biological datasets.
  • Demonstrated experience working with high-throughput sequencing platforms including genomics, transcriptomics (bulk and single cell RNA-seq), proteomics.
  • A firm grasp of biostatistics concepts and methods.
  • High proficiency in Python and/or R, and a good working knowledge of software development practices.
  • Skilled in the use of the Linux command line (e.g. Bash)
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects as part of a small team.
  • Broad experience preparing reports, presentations, visualisations, and communicating bioinformatics analyses to support business decisions.

Selection Criteria - Desirable:

  • Demonstrated understanding of key Molecular Biology concepts.
  • Working knowledge of image analysis including image segmentation.
  • Exposure to and a working knowledge of AWS and GCP.
  • Familiarity with containerisation techniques (e.g. Docker)
  • Familiarity with scripting-oriented programming languages such as Perl.
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of data workflow management tools such as snakemake or NextFlow.

Applications MUST include:
