Biosecurity Officer

Your new company 

This Department delivers nationally integrated biosecurity and imported food regulatory activities to ensure goods, conveyances and travellers meet Australia's import requirements.

To be eligible for this position, you must be an Australian Citizen. 

Your new role 

This is a customer service position based in a busy call centre. You'll be responsible for:

• Respond to client enquiries via telephone and email, provide accurate and timely advice to the importing community about how to import goods into Australia 
• Processing inspection booking requests using departmental systems
• Manage the workflow and resourcing for inspections activities
• Disseminate and respond to electronic mail from the team generic inbox in a timely manner
• Liaise with clients and other government agencies, providing complex and technical advice as necessary
• Support import and export conditions and enquiry workflows by working in partnership with program areas and escalating matters when appropriate

What you'll need to succeed 

To comply with Federal Government requirements, you must be an Australian Citizen with no criminal history and ideally a baseline security clearance. 

You'll also need to demonstrate:

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to form views, provide advice and make effective evidence-based regulatory decisions in accordance with legislation, policies and procedures
• The ability to use initiative and work independently to meet operational demands while navigating through changing priorities
• The ability to work effectively and safely to achieve sound outcomes in a fast-paced and challenging environment
• The ability to problem-solve and appropriately escalate sensitive matters in a timely manner.
• The ability to use risk management tools and techniques
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively liaise with peers, management and stakeholders
