We are actively seeking talented individuals with experience in either the Mining or Quarries industries to fill crucial roles in our dynamic team. Whether you're a skilled Bench Assistant, seasoned MMU Operator, or experienced Shotfirer, your expertise is valued as we build the future of mining with Orica.

Roster: 8 on 6 off, with a preference for candidates residing in the Townsville region.

This is a chance to secure a stable and long-term role with the global market leader in blasting. At Orica, we have incredible training and organisational development infrastructure in which to support Shotfirers, Operators and Blast Crew members who wish to take the next step their careers into Technical and Blast Engineering related roles, or Leadership within our large global business. 

What You Will Be Doing:

Bench Assistants:

• Assisting shotfirers and Mobile Manufacturing Unit (MMU) Truck Operators as required;
• Assisting with the hands-on delivery of explosive products, drilling and loading explosives in blast holes;
• Working in tight unison with your team mates to provide excellent service to our valued customers;
• Demonstrating and setting an example of our key company value:  ‘Safety is our Priority, Always’.

MMU Operators:

• First and foremost, demonstrating and setting the example of our key company value: 'Safety is our Priority, Always';
• Operating Orica’s MMU blast delivery vehicle safely and efficiently meeting our customer expectations;
• Magazine Management, Managing the loading, tying and firing of blasts, following drill and blast designs;
• Assisting with training and mentoring of new team members;
• Working in tight unison with all Blast Crew teammates to provide an excellence in service to our valued customers.

Shotfirers:

• Providing operational blasting knowledge and advice to our Blast Crews and associated stakeholders;
• Shotfiring duties including magazine management, managing the loading, tying and firing of blasts, following drill and blast designs;
• Working in tight unison with your teammates to provide excellence in service to our valued customers;
• Assisting with the training and mentoring of new team members;
• At all times acting with integrity and respect.

What You Bring

• Exposure to operating Orica's MMU or other similar blast delivery vehicle (preferred);
• Current HR Licence, or the ability to obtain one;
• Knowledge of explosive and storage regulations would be highly regarded;
• Previous experience working in a physically demanding environment;
• Knowledge of blasting and blasting procedures;
• QLD Shotfirers Licence (if applying as a Shotfirer)
• Strong customer service skills with the ability to form trusted relationships with all our client stakeholders
• A current Queensland Explosives Security Clearance
• An unquestionable attitude toward working safely as a priority;
