 What’s unique about this role?

As a Building Certifier with the Fraser Coast Regional Council, you will have the unique opportunity to contribute to the preservation and revitalisation of the heritage properties found in Maryborough. Your work will directly impact the community's ability to utilise historical buildings that provide charm to the town, making a direct impact to the economic development of the area while preserving its legacy for future generations. Your efforts will contribute to the vibrant cultural identity of Maryborough and serve the needs of its residents and businesses.

This role presents an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking a departure from the regulations typical of urban environments managing dense populations and large-scale development activities.  Key Responsibilities:

As a Building Certification Officer, your primary objective will be to undertake the statutory building certification responsibilities. You will administer and enforce development related compliance, provide expert professional and technical advice on building certification.

In this role, you'll have a diverse range of responsibilities, including:

  • Providing building certification services in accordance with statutory approval requirements.
  • Ensuring compliance with the Building Act 1975 and Planning Act 2016.
  • Managing regulatory breaches and illegal building matters.
  • Offering expert advice to the public on certification and compliance issues.
  • Coordinating and conducting inspections to enforce legislative requirements.
  • Assessing development applications and issuing relevant certificates.
  • Developing and maintaining records, registers, policies, and standards.
  • Supporting the implementation of monitoring programs for high-risk premises.
  • Enhancing efficiency and compliance through system development and modification.
  • Administering and enforcing development-related legislation to ensure compliance with regulations and standards.

 What we are looking for:

  • Expert knowledge of relevant legislation and building codes.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • The ability to make reliable decisions within allocated responsibility
  • A commitment to teamwork and meeting statutory deadlines.
  • Proficiency in computer software systems, including Microsoft Office Suite, RAMS.
  • A dedication to providing excellent customer service.

 What you should have to apply:

  • Bachelor of Building Surveying or equivalent relevant qualification
  • Current licence (or eligibility to obtain a licence) with the Queensland Building and Construction Commission at a minimum level of “Building Certifier Level 1”.
  • Proven Experience in Building Certification and Development Compliance
  • Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Planning Act and Building Act
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Current QLD Class C Driver's Licence

What's nice to have:

  • Experience in Town Planning.
  • QLD Swimming Pool Inspectors Licence or ability to promptly obtain.
