At the NSW Department of Education, we educate and inspire lifelong learners - from early childhood, through schooling to vocational education and training.

  • Temporary Full-Time up to 14 April 2026
  • Sydney - Eveleigh and hybrid/WFH
  • Salary range $139,787 - $161,663 range plus super and leave loading

About the role

You will lead the development and implementation of business system solutions and short term and long term student projections using internal and external data sources, for specialist digital solutions using innovative technologies. You will create high quality, robust approaches to achieve efficiencies and enhancements in planning analytics for the future of Early childhood infrastructure including integration with current SINSW analytical solutions.


School Infrastructure NSW (SINSW) is delivering new school buildings, major upgrades and maintenance strategies to ensure every school-aged child has access to high quality education facilities at their local public school. This encompasses the largest investment in public education infrastructure in the history of NSW.

You will ideally have:

  • Demonstrated experience in using database technologies to analyse and develop projection models and apply statistical measures for verification.
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering innovative data solutions using databases (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle) and database driven development, web-based data visualisation Geographic Information Systems (GIS) (ESRI, Mapbox, Carto, PostGIS), and leveraging industry RESTful APIs to deliver strategic outcomes.
  • Extensive experience developing robust back-end solutions with server side languages (Node.JS, Java, Python), their corresponding frameworks (Express.JS), and other supporting technologies e.g. Redis, Docker.
  • Experience with data transformation (ETL), cloud deployment (Microsoft Azure/AWS), and exposure to DevOps (Test Driven Development, CI/CD).

About you

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Engaging and collaborating with internal and external School Infrastructure stakeholders.
  • Developing innovative approaches to view, interact with, and visualise data and analytics.
  • Providing solutions to enable customers to derive meaningful insights from a range of information sources.
  • Managing, monitoring and reviewing analytical tools, methods, risks and approaches.
  • Devising and developing recommendations, to deliver innovative, fit-for-purpose Business Solutions and participating in key forums.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department's Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department's Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.

Essential requirements of the role

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline, such as computer science, mathematics, or engineering and/or demonstrated equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the values of public education.

As a condition of employment, successful candidates who have not previously worked for the department will be required to provide a current Working with Children Check (WWCC) Clearance number. This option would allow the WWCC to naturally expire without further communication needed with the employee. The employer obligations under the WWCC would apply for duration of the WWCC's validity (up to 5 years)
