An opportunity exists to join the “Baynton Bites” team - the canteen at Baynton West Primary School. The canteen is run by the BWPS P&C Association and we are looking for a Canteen Coordinator to join our team for an immediate start. We strive to provide healthy food options every day for the children of our school and are looking for friendly, hard working personnel available weekdays of school terms.
Canteen Coordinator
We are seeking a responsible person with a can-do attitude to manage our school canteen. The canteen is currently open 5 days per week, excluding public holidays, requiring approximately 32 hours per week. You will work closely with our students, school staff and parent volunteers.
Experience, Skills & Personal Attributes
· Experience in food preparation in a canteen or food service related industry
· Ability to work collaboratively with the P&C
· Experience with managing and ordering stock
· Competent money handling and adequate financial record keeping skills
· Ability to coordinate a small team of staff and volunteers in a positive environment
· Ability to provide fresh cooked meals and creative menu planning
· Understanding of food hygiene standards
· Basic computer literacy, including software such as XERO (for invoicing), Microsoft Office and QuickCliq (or willingness to learn).
· Good customer service, a passion for working with children and strong communication skills
· Responsible, respectful, and reliable attitude
· Good organisational and time management skills
Tasks & Responsibilities
· The Canteen Coordinator will be responsible for the daily operation of the school canteen, including implementing the Department of Education’s Student Health Care Policy and Procedures
· Create a pleasant working environment for all staff and volunteers and provide appropriate support/training in food handling and hygiene practices
· Provide pleasant and positive interaction with school students, staff and parents – including taking over the counter orders and payments before school
· Work closely with the P&C Committee to align on canteen vision and compilation of monthly reports
· Responsible for securing the canteen during and after hours
· Responsible for preparation and review of term menus in line with the standards set under the Traffic Light System, the School’s Canteen Policy and student requests
· Responsible for counting and recording the daily takings in accordance with P&C requirements and weekly banking
· Responsible for working with multiple suppliers to order, purchase and check all supplies received
· Responsible for maintaining a high standard of kitchen cleanliness and ensure compliance with food handling and cleaning procedures, including general daily cleaning and record keeping
· Work with school representatives to provide small group catering for school events
Training and qualifications:
· Current Working with Children check and Police Clearances
· Completed Foodsafe Food Handler Training (or willingness to complete)
· Completed All about Allergens for Schools Training (or willingness to complete)
