Wests Tigers has been competing as a professional rugby league team in the NRL Competition since the 2000 season, and achieved its maiden premiership in 2005. The organisation was originally formed as a joint venture between Balmain Tigers and Wests Magpies in 1999. Wests Tigers’ headquarters, comprising of a training facility and administration offices, are located in the brand new state-of-the-art Zurich Centre at Concord Oval.

About the Role:
Reporting into the People & Culture Manager, this exciting role is to deliver the CAREERWISE program and help players plan for life after sport.
The best athletes have a balanced approach to their football and their life. Award winning and based on best practice in career development, this role is there as a support through every age and stage. You will also help pave the way for the future by helping players engage in work, study, work experience, volunteer work and networking that will help them make a smooth transition from professional athlete to professional something-else.
In summary you’ll:
- Conduct career development meetings with Players and discuss career interests, work placement, internships/scholarships, gaining employment, including resume writing and job applications
- Assist Players on education options including: Post-Secondary school education and education funding available including TER & RLPA Ed Grants and Education Support – Tutoring and LLN
- Implement the “No work, No Study, No Play” rule with all players aged under 21 for NRL and aged under 23 for NRLW
- Keep up to date with the latest labour market information and employment trends
- Proactively build positive relationships with local businesses, sponsors and employment providers to create work options and pathways for players
- Operate in accordance with the NRL Welfare and Education Code of Ethics
- Adhere to the Professional Standards for Australian Career Development Practitioners
- Provide positive promotional stories on players educational and vocational engagement
- Supporting the People & Culture function, including recruitment and interviewing
- Maintain accurate records on the Wellbeing and Education database; and
- Provide reports as requested to the NRL/RLPA and Club Wellbeing and Education Committees
The experience we’re looking for:
Education
- Certificate IV in Career Development or equivalent post-secondary school qualifications in counselling, education, youth work, recruitment or human resource related areas
- Career Coaching
- Certificate IV in Elite Athlete Wellbeing
- Mental Health First Aid
Minimum Experience
- Experience in Career Coaching Role or equivalent
- Prior experience in Recruitment or HR administration or support roles
- Experience in working with young people in a mentoring, counselling or coaching role
Technical Competencies
- An understanding of the complex issues facing professional athletes relating to career and personal development
- Ability to communicate and present effectively to individuals and groups at all levels and ages
- Experience with online reporting, and intermediate Work, Excel and PowerPoint skills
- Data and reporting
Other key criteria:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Australia
- An ability to attend work events outside of ordinary office hours
- Valid Australian Passport and Valid Australian Driver’s License
- Clean Police History
