YOUR NEW ROLE:
We are seeking a Career Medical Officer (CMO) to join our Emergency Department with a difference. You will be responsible for the provision of safe, effective and appropriate patient centred medical care in a team based Emergency Department. At Calvary Mater Newcastle (CMN), the main point of difference for our Emergency Department is specialised focus on general medicine, oncology and haematology, palliative care, psychiatric and clinical toxicology presentations.
If you are seeking a position as a CMO, working in a team who understands the complexity of balancing work and personal priorities, then this is the position for you. We are open to providing you with flexibility around your working hours, whether it is part time, weekends only, short shifts or school hours. We are also flexible to focus on your professional areas of interest such as seeing main floor patients and resuscitation level patients or only seeing the ambulatory care/fast track type patient or working primarily in our short stay ward managing short term Emergency Department admitted patients and discharge planning. There is room to expand on some non-clinical projects for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities
- Ensure that all patients discharged from the department who require non-ED follow-up care receive a written discharge letter and advice about their condition, including the use of patient handouts where available.
- Ensure that patients are discharged to a safe environment
- Ensure that appropriate follow up arrangements are in place for patients being discharged home
- Demonstrated an understanding of risk management processes and systems
- Protects the rights of patients whilst respecting their values, customs and spiritual beliefs
