In this role you will work in a supportive Emergency Department (ED) where your skills and experience provide direct emergency care to the patients of Belmont Hospital's ED.

Belmont Hospital is located within the beautiful Lake Macquarie area, surrounded by beautiful views, great restaurants, excellent parks, perfect for weekends with family and friends. Just down the road you will find some of the most stunning beaches in NSW. There is proximity to the bustling city of Newcastle, and also a quick drive to the Hunter Valley vineyards and surrounding areas.
Belmont Hospital Emergency Department is staffed with a close knit group of medical professionals who work together with the wider emergency team to ensure excellent service provision is provided to the Lake Macquarie community. Our team consists of Staff Specialists, Career Medical Officers, Senior Resident Medical Officers, PGY2 doctors and PGY1 doctors, nursing staff, nurse practitioners, ACE nurses, technical assistants, administration, and HSAs.
Our ED sees approximately 29,600 attendances per annum with an admission rate of approximately 14%. There is a strong representation of aged patients but we serve all age groups with around 14% paediatric presentations. Patients admitted to Belmont Hospital through the emergency department present with acute general medical, general cardiology, or general surgical problems. We are supported and work closely alongside the John Hunter Hospital as the tertiary referral service for acute specialty services, including paediatric care.

Suitable applicants must have:- Current General Registration with AHPRA- Demonstrated minimum three years’ recent experience and interest in Emergency Medicine- Capability to work in an in-charge role in an urban district Emergency Department
You will be able to:
Provide direct emergency care to patients of Belmont Hospital's Emergency Department, coordination of clinical management of patients consistent with the plans of the Emergency Physician and Admitting Medical Officer
Work night shifts
Provide focused and high quality assessment and management for undifferentiated patients presenting to the Belmont Hospital Emergency
Department and for patients admitted to the ward areas
Ensure that all patients are assessed and managed by ED clinical staff in a timely manner in collaboration with Emergency Physicians and nursing leaders
Demonstrate leadership in the effective co-ordination of care of Emergency Department patients
Support members of care teams by providing clinical advice particularly supervising junior doctors and medical students
Demonstrated ability to participate in after- hours, overtime and on call rosters providing 24/7 care for patients
Support a multidisciplinary team care by contributing to team building, mentoring and training
Coordinate resuscitation of critically ill adults and children with support of Emergency Physicians and retrieval services
