Carer Peer Worker (Casual position, Non-clinical)

An exciting opportunity exists to work with Mental Health Drug and Alcohol (MHDA) services in Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD). We are recruiting Carer Peer Workers (Casual Pool) who can use their experience of caring and peer work to address service gaps, assist in improving service delivery and/or provide an opportunity for education and training of clinical staff. The role is non-clinical and Peer Workers provide representative input into systemic issues through collaborative policy development, committee activities, projects, research and service development, to advocate for and promote positive change.

Where you'll be working
The MHDA Casual Pool offers flexibility of shifts and locations. This is a non-clinical role. Carer Peer Workers will receive appropriate training, supervision and support to carry out their roles.
What you'll be doing
The position involves working collaboratively with MHDA teams to support the implementation and delivery of Mental Health Drug &Alcohol (MHDA) services within the recovery philosophy, which requires that services demonstrate hope for recovery, respect lived expertise, support self-determination and promote social inclusion. Carer Peer Workers use their lived experience of caring and peer work skills to address service gaps, provide opportunity for education and training of clinical staff. Peer Workers provide representative input into systemic issues through collaborative policy development, committee activities, projects, research and facilitate better relationships between carers and service providers, to advocate for and promote positive change. - Past or current lived experience of supporting family or friends with Mental Health issues, the caring role and using public Mental Health services.

- Able and willing to share aspects of your personal experience with others, individually and/or in groups, to encourage hope, support, understanding, respect and learning of others.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a diverse range of settings, including as part of a team, with a diverse range of people and stakeholders, and build relationships that support working with the people using MHDA services.
