SalaryBarnardos are looking for a Carer Support Worker for the Carer Support Team based in Bruce, 2617This position is a 12 Month Contract and offers both Full Time (5 days per week) and Part Time (4 days per week) options.
The Carer Support Worker will be responsible for;
- Ensuring carers and Barnardos staff are working collaboratively in meeting the needs of the child/young person
- Identifying indicators of trauma in the children and provide support to carers on how to manage this effectively and implement therapeutic practices
- Enabling carers to expand and develop their knowledge of trauma and how it effects children and young people
- Ensuring the annual household reviews are completed properly and in a timely manner
- Being involved in Carer Support groups and social functions.
- Developing and maintaining positive relationships with Foster/Kin Carers and maintain regular contact with carers via face-to-face and other communications (email, phone etc.)
- Responding promptly to contacts from carers assigned to their group when requests for assistance are made
- Maintaining written and electronic records in accordance with My Story and Barnardos policy and procedures
- Ensuring carer files are compliant with ACT legislative requirements, including processing compliance checks.
- Being able to use well developed communication skills including the ability to address difficult issues in an appropriate and respectful manner.
As a Carer Support Worker, you will ideally have;
- A qualification in Social Work, Community Welfare, Psychology or related discipline
- Varied professional experience in report writing.
- Professional experience within the out of home care sector and/or related fields
- Knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice
- Knowledge of Child Protection and Out of Home Care structures and their roles in ACT
- Understanding of current ACT legislation with regard to working with and supporting foster and kinship carers, and the care and protection of children and young people
- Experience in working with children and families from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) background
- Experience in working with children and families from an Indigenous background

Salary: Base $71,136 to $82,054 per annum plus leave loading plus superannuation. Packaging available to receive $15,860 of your salary tax free. Motor vehicle packaging available on selected roles.
To be considered for roles with Barnardos you will need to have (or be willing to have conducted) a National Police Clearance and current Working with Children check Clearance (or APP number) and for the ACT a Drivers History Check, Working with Vulnerable People Card and CYPS Check.
